There couldn't have been a better winner for me really. Ok he's an Australian but still. He's been toiling away at this race for well over a decade with no real results and people generally just viewing him as an also ran, and suddenly it all clicks into place for him.

He's had two top 10 finishes in P-R. Not spectacular but a sign of competence.
  • One year until Boonen retires :(

His race last race is surely Paris Roubaix 2017?

Everybody still wants to be one of the sad gits sent up the road for chase fodder.

There's always one who survives and makes it to the end with the big boys...

    .

Sorry, I know this is a bit mean. But I don't quite feel bad enough about it to not do it...

Not at all. I thought the 90km sort out would take it's toll. I was wrong and you had 2 up there with Ervitti.
I would feel your pain after a gallant last stand form your man, but several, +8% Belgie brews ensure that I don't have to.

Vanmarcke, when's he really going to deliver?

    Harsh.

Possibly. I don't like him and don't quite get the hype about him.

I thought he helped deliver a pretty entertaining race today.

After Cancellara and Boonen retire, he will be the best cobbles. That doesn't automatically convert into victory, but 3rd in Flanders and 4th in P-R isn't all that bad. He's also 27, so still has plenty of time.

It's taking up 18.8% of my Sky+ Box, but I really want to keep that race

Do they still do race DVDs?

Don't you just love Sky HD 250Gb boxes?

#ParisRoubaix To celebrate his dad's return to Paris-Roubaix, Mat Hayman's son has dressed up as an elephant.

Having seen that this morning, when Hayman attacked solo from the original break I assumed he did it to show himself for his son.

Just play it back and record it on a DVD recorder. Alternatively, engage in some dark arts.

If you had told me this morning that Hayman, Boonen and Vanmarcke arrive in the Velodrome together, then I'd have been really confident about my 1-2-3.

    What do I know...

Great race and a well deserved win for Matty H.

Been a while since the sky train derailed in such spectacular fashion. Those falls looked hard. Rowe did really well to make it back and I'm sure he did more work for Stannard post crash.
Tony Martin riding in his first PR set a ferocious tempo to set up the move for Boonen.

  • I spent the day drunk in a field.

Your winner is now known as Matthew "fupping" Hayman in Belgium

A career defining victory for Hayman (didn't even know he existed before) and a sleepless night for Boonen. Chapeau to both of them, at their age!

Still buzzing even now. Exceptional race.

And even though I like Carlton Kirby, I thought the commentary from Hatch/Kelly/Quigley was excellent today. Spot on from Eurosport.
It's only a bit of sport, Mun. Relax and enjoy the racing.

Thought it was weird when he face timed me with 2km to go, until he shouts "no I don't want to see you, the TV, the TV!" #weddedbliss

Quite probably the best race I've watched. I had to record it and just finished watching. The intention was to fast forward to Arenburg just watching key cobbles and crashes on the way. I can't recall a big split in the favourites so early before. Didn't quite see how it first started, was there a crash or did Martin's monster turn just cause splits while Sagan and Canc were too far back? Martin has to be given a chance to ride this race for himself. Gutted that my man Rowe couldn't hold on to the final selection but the big chase after his crash and then the second with Haussler visibly took its toll so selfless work on behalf of Stannard.

That bit of bike handling by Sagan was incredible. Also can't believe Hayman was 800-1. OK he isn't a favourite but has shown enough ability in the past in this race to have been less than 100-1 surely?
