I think that my PTP challenge is now dead. That's what matters here. Lizzie blah, blah etc. not important
That's may be why she burst into tears. She knew what it meant....0 -
Mad_Malx doing a sterling job there of ruling Armitstead and the other favourites out over and over. And over. Again.
Amazing ride by Armitstead, she did well to keep her cool and be patient in the hope that it would come back together then used her strength astutely to rid the group of any pure sprinters before unleashing a race winning sprint. Fantastic stuff.
Women's racing is boring, right?
Was thinking the same. Back in the olympics the women's was the better race, I thought.0 -
So what's the consensus on how attritional the race will be?
Weather forecast looks wet and miserable. Light rain all day, 10mph North Eastern headwind.....0 -

Hopefully not to the point where the entire GB team climbs off.
That's a long old day in that weather though....Napoleon, don't be jealous that I've been chatting online with babes all day. Besides, we both know that I'm training to be a cage fighter.0 -

Obviously depends on how they approach it, but if the race follows the normal pattern, I'd say not very."Science is a tool for cheaters". An anonymous French PE teacher.0 -
We've had 4 races on this circuit, and not a single bunch sprint. Last year on a loop with almost 3 times as much climbing 3 out of 4 were bunch sprints (and the 4th a solo win just keeping away from a big bunch).
Every single race has been smashed to bits in the last kms0 -

This is my biggest fear. GB are very good at going through the motions and not so good at disguising it0 -

I think the final climbs have been underestimated. One of them is absurdly steep. The cobbles may not be proper pave, but they don't make them easier. And there are tight corners into the foot of the climbs, no way of keeping much momentum.
There's definitely a potential to make the race very selective. Whether its attritional or not depends on that.Warning No formatter is installed for the format0 -

Going in to those climbs I think there will be a lot of fighting for position very early on in the race if it is wet. This will cause splits all over the place. They'll have watched that Belgian lad in the U23s lose his back wheel on the cobbles with only a sprinkling of water and be dreading getting stuck behind something like that.0 -

i wouldn't class 13% as absurdly steep, especially since it's dead straight. the pro men will hit it so hard they'll be over it before they're slowing down. that didn't happen in the u23 men because of the crash on the previous climb. i think all the 90 degree bends will have a bigger impact than the climbs.
if sagan is recovered from his vuelta crash i think he'll finally get it right"Unfortunately these days a lot of people don’t understand the real quality of a bike" Ernesto Colnago0 -

Very odd question but was that a fish on the road just before they turned right onto the climb around 101km to go?? Seemed to be something flapping about in the manner of a fish out of water in the middle of the road but couldn''t make out what it was on my TV!
I'm at work at the minute but I am recording Eurosport HD so I will be able to check for you later!
That would be massively appreciated! Was a genuine WTF was that moment
I'm also utterly intrigued to find out what it was
It turns out it was a leaf or some such that blew across the road in a fish-like manner. So yeah, underwhelmingly, it was tumbleweed...0 -

Bah, well that's a disappointment. On the plus side though, no fish died so that's good! Thanks for taking the time to look0

The last (uncobbled) climb is tougher than it looks on tv and you've got the drag up to the line so hard to get back on if you've been distanced on it - as seen in the women's race after Armitstead's dig made a selection.
Not much climbing overall (~50ft per mile) but it's the proximity to the finish that makes the climbs selective - not sure they'll have a lot of impact before the last lap, unless the weathers bad.0 -
Please can someone tell me approximately when I need to start watching and on what channel in the UK. Bit hectic at the moment and trying to plan the day. Cheers.0

They are expected to finish between 8 and 9 pm. Probably not really worth watching before 7pm.Twitter: @RichN950 -

I think having the three climbs in quick succession is what's splitting the race up, as there's no time to regroup between them so the race gets strung out and gaps are opened that there's no time to close.0 -
What chance that wily git Gerrans could sneak it? He doesn't seem to appear on many folk's radar...0

Is Brian Smith commentating today? Other than a cracking race, my main hope for the day is to hear him mention South African rider "Dahl-Limpeh"...0

Commentator struggling for a tyre selection comparison. Is it like footballers selecting studs....no hang on....F1 make more sense...they've tyres too.....“New York has the haircuts, London has the trousers, but Belfast has the reason!0

Broadcasting all 260km of the worlds is no way to get new fans...
Looks dry so far. Shame (though quite good as it really needs to finish before 9, because the Mrs will lose her nut if she misses Downton Abbey).0 -
Belgian press slightly worries about an event where "sneaky" Terpstra goes off the front and his quick step team mates don't chase....0

Anyone know why the Dutch are controlling it? Not been paying much attention to the TV but they seem to have been on the front of the bunch for at least an hour, and can't think of any stand out contenders for them?0

Agreed, not ideal tactics - Terpstra & Boom I would imagine would be their men.0 -
"Go Lance" says one of the fans. Is there a Lance in the race?0
