    Oh Good Lord...

    Sagan's new jersey will have
    “a very classic look ”
    BUT
“Under UCI rules we can only have team issue shorts or white shorts. We haven’t decided which Peter will wear yet but the rules mean he can’t use black shorts.”
Clearly the solution is for Tinkoff-Saxo to change their team kit to something entirely different which just happens to have black shorts.

Couple of quick queries from the men's TT that linger (apologies if answered elsewhere):
Jerome Coppel!? What's changed in his world to go from solid TTer to World's podium (including setting fastest checkpoint times on a course favouring the usual suspects)?
    And inversely:
Luke Durbridge - What's happened in his world? 3 years ago he was the Next Big Thing in TTs. Has he settled on being solid domestique and TTT body?

RE Durbridge: I've been known to ponder the same thing re (former) Turbo Durbo...yes, seems he has settled into this role after struggling to get ITT results of any magnitude. Though his annoying No Neck Gerrans by belting off on one and winning the 2013 Nats Road title aka the OGE Club Run, was amusing....

There was a before and after pic of Coppel doing the rounds on twitter showing the change in his TT position, and he's obviously been working on that a lot. Iirc, he finished 7th in the final TT at the Vuelta last year so combined with his move away from being big name rider on a small team # I reckon he might have refocused a bit.

true, his form on a bike has changed, not drastically, but significantly enough to get improvements that are tangible.

Looking at Coppel's results of the past few seasons makes for curious reading; he rarely troubles the top ten of any road race he does - generally finishing in the sub-Zubeldia range of 25-80th position - but then pulls out a top ten performance if there's a TT stage (often in amongst the names of some of the biggest hitters in the sport).
Most riders have the inverse issue: they do a great performance in a road stage then can't back it up in the TT.
Why doesn't he feature in more breakaway attempts if he can TT like that?
Maybe after his bronze at the World's his 2016 season will see him ramp up his aspirations?

If i remember correctly EBH hesitated in 2012 too

He also literally ended up being the door mat in the 2007 U23 Champs as well

2012, was 3 guys of roughly equal ability in places 2,3,4, with Valverde absolutley refusing to do a pull. Eddie kept trying... and still outkicked them.

What is it about Gerrans that seems to elicit such widespread distain? I must admit that I've completely bought into it. He seems like quite a nice affable bloke in interviews, so there must be something subconsciously unsavoury lurking. That, and never putting his own shnozzer in the wind during a race accept for the last 200m, I guess...

its exactly that, he's not going to win races based on his ability to stick his nose in the wind. he's a very good one trick pony... but isnowadays being eclipsed by bling matthews.

Gerrans is one of my favourite riders, in large part because of the amount of stick he gets!

I'm still waiting for someone to post links to all those races where Cav sat on the front of the bunch for miles before powering off to win the sprint, or Greipel, or Degenkolb, or Kittel, or McEwen, or Cipo or... any other sprinter.

Only reason a few on here don't like Gerrans is because he's beaten a few of their personal faves in some big races.

Simon Gerrans is a rider of fairly limited ability. He's not a natural super talent.

Despite this, he's won two monuments, stages in all three GTs, a Worlds silver, two national championships, seven other World Tour races and worn the Yellow Jersey.

I don't think there's a rider in the current peloton who has maximised his abilities more.

Yet some prefer more talented riders who conspicuously minimize theirs.

^This is exactly why I argued that Cav shouldn't/couldn't be considered "Britain Greatest Ever Cyclist"...
  • Gerrans races in such a negative fashion, I think that's what irks some people. Him and Valverde letting Vanendert nick 2nd at Amstel Gold last year was testament to this.. Same thing happened at the worlds didn't it?

Great way to kill a chase off. The worst way to win..

In fairness sometimes you just don't have it in your legs to do anything else despite what your head might say

That and not buying them wine afterwards.

There's a difference though between not having legs and weaving all over the road because you don't want to ride
