Pick a Car

Piña you clearly didn't read the OP properly.Speed is constrained by congestion and cameras so comfort and fun are the key deciders.
Certainly looks like fun.

A brief summary.
Here is a list of the cars with multiple suggestions.
RS6
Caterham
Megane 265/275
XF
911
Boxster
SL
350/370
T4/T5
Large Merc estates
C63
Integrale
I can rule out the Caterham for personal comfort, and the Merc estates as I already have an estate.
I will also rule out vans as a personal choice.
Out of that lot, I would short list it to the RS6, 911 and XF. The SL would be an outside 4th pick.
The Integrale would be first pick as a weekend car/short journeys, but not for long hauls.
The Megane too Max Power, the 350/370 too medallion man and the C63 too thirsty.
It's just opinions. The above may be fact, or fiction, I may be serious, I may be jesting.

Another left field choice is a Mitsubishi Lancer Evo. Shockingly fast for a Japanese taxi, I once had a 911 smack the barriers at Brands Hatch trying to keep up with my Evo 6 on a trackday
Maybe that generation haven't got to MAMIL status yet.
Evo's are expensive to run, I've always fancied one but 4,000 mile services, 20 mpg etc means you have the running costs of something more exotic. Imprezas lost their way a few years ago imo and were rendered pretty much pointless by the new generations of hot hatches.
I currently have a Megane R26, my third RenaultSport, and a 275 Trophy will almost certainly be my 4th in a year or two. It helps that I have a brilliant RS specialist just a few miles away who maintains them very cheaply."I spent most of my money on birds, booze and fast cars: the rest of it I just squandered." If we're going down the French route, why not:
The only french car i have always loved,I did see an old Citroen DS the other week and thought how cool it looked0 -
Dunno about budget over there for one of these, but a fun carOpen One+ BMC TE29 Seven 622SL On One Scandal Cervelo RS0 -
A Benz W111 or similar, with a 2-door or convertible body. And a V8. If a 4-door, then with the 6.3 motor. No hurry. Long legs. Lots of presence and an extraordinary ride.
If reliable, a series 1 XJ12 or Daimler equivalent or a Series 2 2-door with the V12. Just for the long legs and the ride and the lovely feel of the interior and the look of the thing and the relative silence.
Maybe a Citroen 15-6 H, just because 've never been in one and the idea of a hybrid between the tractions and the DS amuses me.0 -
The very thing:
seanoconn - gruagach craic!0 -
But but but, that would require effort.
I put effort into cycling but I refuse to add to my load.
I have spent the past week car watching as I drive along the highways and byways (always a good idea) and disappointingly very few cars are worth a second glance. A Tesla S took my eye but I dare say that they will be expensive for quite some time. The above may be fact, or fiction, I may be serious, I may be jesting.

The very thing:
They've updated that model, a recumbent which includes an electric motor so now everyone can hate it
my isetta is a 300cc bike0 -
It would have to be a Lotus Elise! Just got back from an awesome week away biking in France and I was able to take the Elise after buying this bike rack! We did have a bit of a glitch with the engine at one point but the bike rack just slides off the car without having to take the bikes off the rack. Can't love it enough!!!! 8)0

An XJR (assuming old version) would be a possibility but only one of the later versions at a good price.
It is old technology in my opinion so a bargain XJR would be only be preferable to an XFS if it was a real bargain. The above may be fact, or fiction, I may be serious, I may be jesting.

Thread resurrection.
iPete wins with the Golf R, manual.
I would have gone for an F-Type or Cayman S but they are holding their prices so the F is out, and it would have to be a too old model Cayman.
More importantly I decided that I really did need proper rear seats.
The GTD would probably be the perfect car but the R just had that bit more theatre for when you want to play. :PThe above may be fact, or fiction, I may be serious, I may be jesting.

Good choice, I wouldn't have bought a diesel before and even less so now if they change the taxation as expected.0

Alfa Spyder (old one) with TDNFNATN in the passenger seat and a trunk full of freshly pressed lab coats.
AA recovery truck towing an old 911 a suitable distance behind.Postby team47b » Sun Jun 28, 2015 11:53 am
