Pick a Car

the Subaru is a great car, I just hate how it looks.
Ps regarding the a5 PB, I have heard it is fun but won't let you lose it like a BMW or the Porsche shouldyou perhaps want that fun
I am glad that I had my fun when cars in general had less speed but less grip and more fun. Assuming you were good enough. The above may be fact, or fiction, I may be serious, I may be jesting.
I am not sure. You have no chance.Veronese68 wrote:PB is the most sensible person on here.0 -
I'd rent a supercar (Aston, for example) and pocket the change.
It's just a hill. Get over it.0 -
The reason I would have no desire to own a Subaru Impreza or similar is surely you can't get close to exploiting their performance without driving like an absolute dickhead anyway ? OK if you are a fan of track days but on UK roads is there any point in them.[Castle Donington Ladies FC - going up in '22]0

Comfort is where it's at, large wheelbase and automatic. There is no "fun" to be had going for a drive anymore. I used to have a Westfield for fun. Once you've done a bit of powersliding and yobbing about that's it. Better to get your kicks on a bicycle now that IS fun0

I would argue that there is enjoyment (as a level of fun) to be had in taking a corner perfectly with the right line at 40mph in second.
That might just be me though. The above may be fact, or fiction, I may be serious, I may be jesting.

I'm pretty sure many would agree - however I'm also aware that we've been sold "handling" to an absurd extent, blame the Germans I suppose.
A better ride and a set-up that makes piloting a car more effortless at low and medium speeds would benefit average Jo, who for 95% of the time exists in a world of suburban streets and motorways, far more than a set-up focused on those few minutes each year when you're got the urge, there's a country road, no traffic and good visibility ahead...0 -

agreed, along with any good down shift0 -
If we're going down the French route, why not:0

The problem is, you don't buy an Aston Martin outside of warranty unless its a VERY occasional car or showpiece for the garage.
They are not reliable and they are costly. Trust me.Living MY dream.0 -

That is precisely the kind of advice that I need.

You could probably get a fairly nice bentley for that sort of cash. I'm currently looking at 2+2 to replace an aging SL, and while I vowed never to buy another merc, I quite like the E350 cabs, particularly as I really don't need a GT style car any more.
my view 911 too basic and old for that money - probably looking at a Carrara S etc.
The new Jags are very tempting as they are good cars and depreciate like old jags
Audi - I don't get the premium these attract - apart from the A8
BMW - 6 series ? apart from that just dull
If its a one off for the trip, 30k should get you a small jet0 -
Ribbit.
Could people please read threads before posting so that their comments may be relevant. Silly request, I know.
Back OT. I have considered the 6. See above. It will NOT be a one off trip.

Piña you clearly didn't read the OP properly.Speed is constrained by congestion and cameras so comfort and fun are the key deciders.
Certainly looks like fun.0 -

There was an early Lotus 7 outside work just now. Looked like fun, but not very comfy.0

Another left field choice is a Mitsubishi Lancer Evo. Shockingly fast for a Japanese taxi, I once had a 911 smack the barriers at Brands Hatch trying to keep up with my Evo 6 on a trackday
Maybe that generation haven't got to MAMIL status yet.
Evo's are expensive to run, I've always fancied one but 4,000 mile services, 20 mpg etc means you have the running costs of something more exotic. Imprezas lost their way a few years ago imo and were rendered pretty much pointless by the new generations of hot hatches.
I currently have a Megane R26, my third RenaultSport, and a 275 Trophy will almost certainly be my 4th in a year or two. It helps that I have a brilliant RS specialist just a few miles away who maintains them very cheaply.0
