Well, left field is what I was after so thank you.
But beige?
Surprised it took nearly 4 pages for a GTI to get a mention, far less an R with no mentions. The above may be fact, or fiction, I may be serious, I may be jesting.

Not very leftfield and a bit dull though.0 -
For me it's a no brainer. I do about 30k miles per year so it's about balancing performance, economy, comfort, ease of driving and minimising fatigue.
I give you
I did 110k miles in 3.5 years in my Prius. Never a thing wrong. Never knackered after doing long distance drive etc etc. Only thing against is noise insulation, on certain road surfaces it was a tad noisy.Always be yourself, unless you can be Aaron Rodgers....Then always be Aaron Rodgers.0 -

I think our balance of performance and economy are at odds with each other.
Left field though, I will grant you.The above may be fact, or fiction, I may be serious, I may be jesting.

The question with such cars is how much you just want something that looks nice and is comfortable and how much you want something to drive and engage with
I want it now.

Was going to mention the Golf R, how much of a hooligan are you, are hot hatches in or out? Merc A45?0

Anything is in, but I have to say that I'd be a retired hooligan due to age.
Trying to find the impossible compromise between a 911 & an MX-5 for the twisties, plus an S-Class for the motorways.
Economy is a bonus but I am used to 34mpg so not that much of a concern.
I could also add that this will likely be my first and last "marquee" purchase before I retire to a Micra. Or more likely a Polo.
By "marquee", I mean one that I enjoy driving, and looking at. I am not bothered for any perceived image. The above may be fact, or fiction, I may be serious, I may be jesting.

You wanted fun and comfort....
get a big motor cycle, say a bmw GS1250, c/w panniers and loads of change left over for a Caterham.0 -
A Caterham would be a blast.
How about LSD and some wall posters of supercars?
Here you go, needs a little work:

Another left field choice is a Mitsubishi Lancer Evo. Shockingly fast for a Japanese taxi, I once had a 911 smack the barriers at Brands Hatch trying to keep up with my Evo 6 on a trackday"I spent most of my money on birds, booze and fast cars: the rest of it I just squandered." [George Best]0 -

What I am currently thinking is crossing my fingers that my current car will last another 2-3 years so the depreciation on this will bring it into the equation.
