Stage 18 TdF 2015 Gap / St Jean de Maurienne *SPOILERS*

Today would make the ideal long range attack for a GC contender desperate to make up minutes. I know these things rarely happen and Landis aside never work but the start of the Glandon might tempt Contador into one last throw of the dice...we can hope anyway. Stick men up the road so you've got a couple of helpers for the upper slopes of the Glandon maybe one to lead you into the lacets and solo from there.0

I'd suggest that Movistar try to take advantage of Froome's thin red zone - alternate lone attacks from Nairo and Valverde, force him to chase and sit up immediately when it is apparent he's going to catch back on to allow the other one back too. Then hammer again.
Likely problem: Sky domestics to maintain solid pace making these attacks difficult. They need to be burnt off early. Not easy.
Likely outcome (assuming Froome can be isolated): Froome figures out what they are doing and rides off alone, but it doesn't cost them anything to try.
No-one else is close enough to make a worthy alliance.
It's not going to be easy.0 -

We're at that part of a GT for sadists everywhere - minds, bodies and hopes breaking all over the place.
The first 100km today looks like the gnarly bit of an Ardennes classic... followed by HC Glandon and a MTF...0 -

Given the ASO seem to be very found of including Gap in their Tour itinerary, someone should suggest to them that instead of the continued over-use of the Col du Manse, they might take a look at the stage they have designed for today.

Garaint:
"Actually, my crash looked much more dramatic on video than it was really. I was just a little bit sore and nothing hurt really. I just lost my favourite pair of glasses which is unfortunate because I don't have any spares of the same sort. It's not superstition, it's just that you come here with a full suitcase and you end up always wearing the same things. I was used to the vision those glasses gave. You can't say they brought me luck because I moved up two places on the GC after I lost them. To be honest, the podium is not something I contemplate. It's not lack of confidence, but I have a job to do and I'm convinced that Contador and Nibali will overtake me at some stage. I kind of surprised myself because I went up pretty smoothly in Mur de Huy and felt great from the start and ever since. There's only three days left, they are massive days but I hope I won't crack."Contador is the Greatest0 -
A Samu win today would be very pleasing. Especially considering the descent.

Break have no distance by the look of things, so it's going to probably be a scrap to get away for the next 50 kms.
29 riders now have just 25 seconds."Science is a tool for cheaters". An anonymous French PE teacher.0 -

Tinkov going back to the tactic that served them so well yesterday?
De Gendt adding to the 550km he's spent in breaks in this Tour."In many ways, my story was that of a raging, Christ-like figure who hauled himself off the cross, looked up at the Romans with blood in his eyes and said 'My turn, sock cookers'"

I'd suggest that Movistar try to take advantage of Froome's thin red zone
This "thin red zone": have you ascertained that this is the case as a result of his power figures being published?
In fact there is zero evidence that Froome has shown any weakness in this regard. Except perhaps his propensity for short stinging high cadence attacks followed by an immediate return to rhythm.0 -
The break already have 3.5 mins and is full of heavy hitters. Should be a good one.
Although with riders like Talansky and Bardet in there (who are only 16 mins down on GC), they won't get TOO far up the road.0 -

That's alright then.
I read it as "short singing high cadence attacks", which might endear him to those grumpy French.
Seeing as he's being so heavily scrutinised and obliged to reveal stuff that was hitherto regarded as private, perhaps Sky should publish a CAT scan of what must be a freakish heart.
And then we could all have a rummage around in his soul, before parading him naked through the streets of Paris carrying a giant Sky satellite dish...0 -
No Pozzato in the break today? I'm surprised...0

I really, really, really hope Yates can win this one. Wore my OGE jersey on todays commute and everything0

Rodriguez 4 points behind Froome and about to pick another 2 in a moment (probably) then there's 2, 2 and 5 available before the Glandon. He should go ahead but it'll depend on the situation on the Glandon where there's a ton of points available.0

Jrod first over the first two climbs which gives him 7 points. 2 more to reach Froome's amount.Contador is the Greatest0
