Got to dash so I will leave you with this.
If anyone finds in car footage or post stage celebration from MTN please post up, cheers.
Nice pic, cheers. Great ride and a great story. Easy to lose sight of the brilliant racing with all the crappy noise about. It's only a bit of sport, Mun. Relax and enjoy the racing.0 -
reat ride by Cummings, no panic on the climb but what on earth were Bardet and Pinot thinking when they stopped working and fannied around with Cummings within 10 seconds, they were never going to beat him on the run in.0

In Spain @elpais_deportes reports Contador begged Valverde not to attack him on final climb. Piti says would also love a podium. #TDF
Contador clearly not rebounding yet. How uneasy is the Quintana-Valverde accord?0 -

Perhaps they were keeping up the old cycling tradition of rather lose than possibly inadvertently help someone else to win. It's to be applauded rather than do your best to win. Frightfully sordid and non-tradional. Positively unseemly, this trying to win business. It's only a bit of sport, Mun. Relax and enjoy the racing.0 -
Ok. But what are these traditions of the sport? Please tell us.
Staying in the hotels provided.
The same ones all the riders in the race are moaning about on Twitter?0 -

You probably won't see it as we'll all have been struck down by lightning by nightfall.0 -
Great win by Steve Cummings today. A hard working journey man pro who has had his moments in the sun. Only needs a Giro stage win now for the full set.0

Sadly, with the abuse, the facilitators of the abuse think they are the victims:
@TeddyCutler
So the abuse must stop all round. That goes for likes of Ross Tucker too, who as far as I can see has been scrupulous in his work this Tour.

I don't condone punching or spitting or anything else of that nature but I struggle to see how you all are so surprised at anti-Sky sentiment. I have said for ages (and you keep telling me I'm wrong) that very, very few people like Sky or Froome. And it is not hard to understand why.
You have cycling that is in the blood of these Europeans, it's tied closely to their culture and people have been riding bikes in these countries before UK public even knew how to use them properly. The sport of professional cycling has been developed from scratch in these countries and they provide the infrastructure, race organization and beautiful landscape for these races to take place. The majority of people watching are from working class backgrounds. There is broadly a way of racing which they all race too.
Then you get Sky come along who try and boss this scene, who throw money at their team, who employ methods and approaches alien to the spirit of the sport, alien to the history of the sport and alien to the fans of the sport. You get a team who has and is changing the face of GT cycling, making it much less interesting, bland, corporate, lacking in respect for the history of the sport, eschewing traditions, and they are seemingly able to develop half a team worth of riders who are able to crush the best of the rest at will.
It really is not hard at all to understand why Sky are not liked.
Even by your standards that's utter codswallop

Just before the end of the GIF, Cummings is still freewheeling and it looks like Pinot can easily close. Did he wait for Bardet there?
Haven't rewatched, but I'm pretty sure he just hesitates fora second by which point it's too late. Perhaps he was half-expecting Cummings to sit on and recover for the sprint?Team My Man 2018: David gaudu, Pierre Latour, Romain Bardet, Thibaut pinot, Alexandre Geniez, Florian Senechal, Warren Barguil, Benoit Cosnefroy0 -
Ross 'Mr 90%' Tucker. Due diligence on his next grant application is going to turn up some spectacular cheerleaders. This dispassionate seeker of truth has, finally, trashed his credbility this Tour....a rare 100% loyal Pro Race poster. A poster boy for the community.0

Shameful in some eyes but to me he's the most complete rider in cycling today. And so damn stylish on a bike.

He should keep the hair plugs, helps add to his pantomime villain act. Which is what he is. Never has the phrase "he's behind you!" been more apt.
I worry when he retires that we'll be bereft, with no obvious successor.0 -
Maybe the French press still can't handle the fact that an English-speaking team is now dominating the Tour. This, and the fact that the French riders have gone backwards again this year in their progression towards producing a future Tour winner. There appears to be a double-standard in the treatment of various teams at the hands of the French hacks and their European colleagues.
Astana get a free ride after last year's shenanigans and this year's eyebrow-raising Giro performance (plus rumblings from within the peloton itself) and Astana have one of the EPO era's top dopers in charge for good measure! . SKY have yet to return one positive test or have a bio-passport case opened against one of their riders yet are portrayed as the dodgiest team on the planet.
Armstrong turns up for two days to support a cancer charity (and flip the bird at the French) and gets slated, while Tricky-Dicky Virenque (the face of the 1998 EPO scandal on the sacred Tour) is the poster boy for Festina at this Tour and is actually at the race each day. Jalabert's quotes are also given credence in the French press. All three were dopers yet only two get the red-carpet treatment? The two French dopers, coincidentally. What a fooking joke.
If the press don't like SKY, that is one thing, but presumably they are aware that many people truly believe everything they read in the papers is the absolute truth. The press are provoking the mob with their words, it appears, and will carry some responsibility if something more serious than a cup of piss is directed at Froome and his team mates.

Successor? A rider who can potentially win in all circumstances, good in the classics, last deep into GTs without necessarily challenging (assuming Valv's GT successes were, term, suspicious)

+1 utter bollox as usual wtf has working class got to do with being an ignorant pig? The french just hate loosing they are the same with other sports, great when they are winning and nasty as fook when they loose. By the way since when was cycling only for the continent, bikes been here in UK just as long.
Well the French have been losing the Tour de France for quite a long time so I expect Wiggins, Nibali, Contador, Indurain etc have all suffered having piss chucked over them?[Castle Donington Ladies FC - going up in '22]0 -

In what universe is it ok to douse somebody with urine whilst they're at work because you don't like their employers style of racing?
And the French used ot complain that Eddy Merckx was destroying cycling, but I don't see FF complaining about his style of racing,"In many ways, my story was that of a raging, Christ-like figure who hauled himself off the cross, looked up at the Romans with blood in his eyes and said 'My turn, sock cookers'"

Brits: enjoy it while it lasts.
So many nations would kill for a tour like this !!!!
