TdF 2015 - Stage 6 - Abbeville - Le Hauve ***Spoilers***

Pretty long time Stybar was out in front, strong win. I would say Gilbert would have taken the win with ease had he been there.
If you watch the video of the crash, good to see a BMC rider come up fast, jump off his bike, take TJ's bike and get him on his way.Contador is the Greatest0 -

Not clear if this relates to Nibali, or another Astana rider, but it seems the story has a grain of truth to it.
At the time, I couldn't see how Nibali could have managed it, but we now know that Froome had stopped to change a wheel, when Nibali came past.
It would explain why Froome went straight to the Astana bus, rather than his own.Twitter: @RichN950 -

So Nibali's bike change may well have taken place while Froome was standing around waiting for a wheel - is that when the Shark bidoned Froomedog?
From listening to various podcasts the events seem to have been:
Crash
Nibali thinks Froome caused him to come off (blatantly not true when you look at the video - heat of battle and all that)
Nibali at some point catches up with Froome and throws a bidon at him
At the stage finish Froome goes to the Astana bus to discuss the crash
They both now seem to be fine about it.
I particularly enjoyed Nibali's comment when asked if the feud would continue over the coming days "no, we're cyclists - not footballers".
Thought it was a good mature move from Froome to just go directly to Nibali at the first opportunity to discuss it calmly and sort it out. I'm sure other riders would have gone off to the press and slagged Nibali off for not knowing what he was talking about.0 -

Thing is that throwing a bidon at an opponent is a definite no no. Just ask Tom Steels. Bye bye Tour.

Was discussing with a friend earlier that team sponsors may want them to wear the yellow jersey anyway. But a good point raised was having the yellow Jersey means a longer night (and less rest) with all the press interviews and publicity events that go with the jersey."The Prince of Wales is now the King of France" - Calton Kirby0 -

Or have a fight on the Champs Elysees and get thrown off the race, so you rode the whole 3 weeks for nothing. The jersey will be awarded at the end of the stage regardless so the interviews will still be an issue0 -
Also - it's not like the other teams are suddenly going to forget who's in yellow. Sky will have to do all the work they normally would to defend the jersey.0

The point was they might not want the yellow jersey at all for the first several days. Let someone else have all the hassle then take the jersey in the Alps.

Yeah, that was newsworthy, but Armstrong started the whole ' won't start stage 1 with yellow as I haven't "earned it" for this year' etc
At least, that's my understanding.0 -

I think it's always been seen as bad form to start the race in the yellow jersey if you won it the previous year. I'll have a look now but I know there is only one man in history tried the same trick in the worlds and he was already a pariah so decided he might as well go the whole hog."In many ways, my story was that of a raging, Christ-like figure who hauled himself off the cross, looked up at the Romans with blood in his eyes and said 'My turn, sock cookers'"

It seems like the race directors took the decision, not Froome?0 -

Which is odd as they took the decision to make Armstrong wear it in 2005 after Zabriskie retired!
My time pressed research reveals 2 pictures of Merckx on the prologue and stage 1 of the Tour. 1 in yellow, one in a normal team jersey."In many ways, my story was that of a raging, Christ-like figure who hauled himself off the cross, looked up at the Romans with blood in his eyes and said 'My turn, sock cookers'"

This notion of nationality being based only on where you were born dies very quickly when you live abroad...
I was educated about racism many years ago by a young black girl of Windies descent who had returned from holiday with relatives in the Windies and left her family out there for another month or so.
It was January and I asked her why she had come back to a very cold Croydon and her reply was.
"I just wanted to come home to see my mates and there's nothing like being Home"
I had a lot of friends in the Croydon area with a much better Tan than I will ever get.

I read somewhere that as Martin finished the stage yesterday Froome couldn't officially start in yellow anyway as Martin was only officially out of the race when he failed to sign on for the start. Had Martin not finished then Froome would have rightfully been awarded it yesterday (although I guess he could / would still have not worn it ).0
