Similarly, Virenque came from Morocco - moved to France age 10 - but not African officially.
The other month I watched the French film "Days of Glory" about Moroccan and Algerian men fighting for France in the second world war. Absolutley brilliant film that highlights their lack of recognition and the discrimination they received. Highly recommend film.
Is Virenque one of the best climbers of all time? I think he's finished in Polka Dots a record 7 tours."The Prince of Wales is now the King of France" - Calton Kirby0 -
Not a great race for the best TT riders in the world. Martin, Cancellara and Dumoulin all gone down.
Wiggins still upright though0 -
Just woken up to have my fears confirmed. The Giant rider TM brought down was indeed my man Barguil. Fortunately, Warren is not seriously hurt and remains on schedule to electrify the race on Saturday.0

I'm not sure how it could be misread...
Froome is a proud Kenyan, remember his custom Sidis? Impey a proud south African yet there accomplishmens are being openly ignored.
I am in no slight Teks achievements, KOM in the tour is massive especially as a speed bump can affect me but why is it acceptable to completely ignore the two above?
If you can't see the difference between a white kid being brought up in Africa to British parents and a native black African then I suspect you are either trolling or dumb. I suspect the former (just).0 -
Directors were too busy looking at Tony Martin on the floor.
I thought he was leading out and Sagan dropped the wheel, but on re-inspection Stybar just made the gap with better legs just when it got steep.
Ala his Strade Bianchi. Looked like Sagan was avoiding all work at all, Trying to avoid the Yellow Jersey?
The key thing is not that he's African but that he's a BLACK guy in a sport minus many black guys which is a positive thing from a whole new audience perspective and of course a potentially new gene pool of high performing endurance athletes.0 -

some prejudiced assumptions in there.0 -
Is this the first Tour in which two MJ wearers have crashed out while in yellow?0

Ok, that makes sense and I tend to agree, even if there is a distinction between Tekle and Froome.
For starters Froome had a relatively easy life. A lot of these black African riders have been through abject poverty and for some even had their whole families decimated by the Rwandan genocide.Contador is the Greatest0 -
It's not where you're from, it's where you're at.

Sagan refusing to do the chasing was interesting. Looks like he's learned a lesson this season.
I go along with that. You get the feeling that he has to sacrifice some potential wins in the short term to get more glory in the long term.0 -

This reminds me of when Mauri Fa'asivalu was selected for England RL and a Saints fan of my acquaintance joked that his parents were actually Ernie and Elspeth Fa'asivalu who were born and raised on the East Lancs Road."In many ways, my story was that of a raging, Christ-like figure who hauled himself off the cross, looked up at the Romans with blood in his eyes and said 'My turn, sock cookers'"

Seems that the bidon throwing affair rumbles on:

Not clear if this relates to Nibali, or another Astana rider, but it seems the story has a grain of truth to it.
At the time, I couldn't see how Nibali could have managed it, but we now know that Froome had stopped to change a wheel, when Nibali came past.
It would explain why Froome went straight to the Astana bus, rather than his own."Science is a tool for cheaters". An anonymous French PE teacher.0 -
