I saw a Lotto Soudal jersey in the second group of the GB nationals. Would that be James Shaw riding in their U23s team?

    Yes indeed.

"I don't need to show what I can do, I've won 25 tour stages and the world road race championship"

    Brilliant!

Loads of respect for Cav today, fantastic riding. Not for that answer though, it just shows that he didn't understand the question one bit. The way he spat the answer was typical too. Not to mention his answer referred to wins of which the vast majority were relying on his team, when the question was actually being put to him in the assumption he'd be proud he'd illustrated a different side of his riding that he did a great job of.

I think he understood the question, he just gets frustrated when people seem to underestimate what it takes to win a sprint. It's his 'job', you can see why he wouldn't want it the appear that other styles of riding are viewed as more worthy.

Looks like winning a National championship wasn't so good for everyone...

To be fair to Cav, I think i'd have taken the question the same way. You don't get the reults he has without still being able to ride a bike a bit.

Ha, I gave up years ago on that sort of thing, once riders were split into heavy and light weight categories and pretty much all styles of racing apart from ludicrous long range attacks were dismissed.

But I assume these people have never raced, or infact don't enjoy the art of racing a bike.

Have to agree with this. Thought his response to the question showed a lack of EQ to be honest.

But that wasn't the point of the question. The point was that the race showed a less seen side of Cav's abilities. His 25 tour stage wins, and world champs were won in an entirely different manner to how he rode yesterday (which, btw, was brilliant).

Wow so once again we have the Britty Nats like I described. Just a shame Cavendish couldn't take the win as he rode an excellent race and I love it when he turns the pedals in anger. Looking very good for the Tour. Yates; sort it out.
PK: I’m over the moon just to stay in white with my white bike and all my white accessories. It means a lot to me

And once again we have another lightweight with the Belgium stripes; the 'heavweights' should hold their heads in shame.
Well done my man Nibali and well done my man Valverde. Hope their teams make some proper kits, bikes and accessories.
Some no name takes French as well with that loser taking out Bouhanni. Hopefully he can manage to make the Tour.

Some no name takes the German RR.
Sagan takes the RR in Slovakia.
A Torku rider takes the Polish RR
My man Dunbar brilliant display. Shame the jersey has to go to an amateur though.
EBH takes the RR for Norway.
    Chri Anker takes Denmark.
Jungels doubles up and takes Lux.
    Costa takes Portugal.

Way harsh to label the new Belgian champ a lightweight. He rode a hell of a race.

The same with Tronet in France. He was simply the strongest, and there's no arguing with that.

My man Dunbar brilliant display. Shame the jersey has to go to an amateur though.
That amateur is the 2nd highest points ranking rider in Ireland, he races here domestically and will do the jersey proud. I'd rather see Shaw wearing it and winning, than any of the pros who came home just to race the nats for a chance at being the champ, of a relatively small country - carry bottles for a team mate..

Well done that man, a man with a day job stuffed it up the pros

Well fair play to him and well done to him if he won en puissance. There were no WT riders in the race though. In fact the only rider I know is Dunbar, other than Matt B (never been a fan and him robbing Dan Martin twice for the bands is a travesty for Irish cycling and my man Dan).

Oh my. Check out the two shapes of 1st and 2nd

    Deignan started.

Good interview with Thijs Benoot and Edward Theuns in De Gentenaar today... What we learned:

The hardest training ride in East Flanders goes from the town hall at 0900 every weekday.
Theuns lives with his mum and has never fled the nest
Both riding for the win tomorrow
Benoot won his first pro raceafter a big night at the Gentse Feesten, but hes not going this year cos he's going well and wants to hold his form for Eneco and the Worlds
Both cycle on their city bikes when they need to go somewhere in the city
Benoot likes cheesy student clubs in the winter
Theuns has no targeted races for the year because, if he's lucky, topsprt give him his plan 2 week on advance

Thanks for the info. No wonder his mum was at the finish that day and he gave her a huge hug. 2 weeks is a joke. Glad he is in WT next year, no doubt bringing lots of heart and excitement to the roads.

Was Mullen racing? Didn't see his name in the results and think he didn't even start due to stomach issues.

Deignan is not on the finish list hence why I didn't see him; but he is not worthy of holding a pro licence anyway.

Fairly sure he started and was trying to bridge to the break at a point....but had ...*ahem* difficulties

Nice to wear number 1 today as defending champion is the Road Race, until it had to be used as emergency toilet paper. #dodgyguts

    No not really:

Even excluding that, he is just an average domestique.

There's a big difference between being a journeyman pro and not deserving a pro licence. Even having said that, how many riders get a GT top 10 in their career? There must be a hell of a lot of riders undeserving of their pro licence by that rationale! Did you see his rides at the Giro last year? Plenty of aggression in the mountain stages.

So what, average domestiques shouldn't be pros? But then who would be the domestiques?

FF on deignan and lizzie armitstead being an item:
Wow, talk about punching above his weight and he is certainly completely different to her previous beau. But maybe she churns and burns them.

The garbage about deignan not deserving a licence is just playground jealousy. It's quite sweet really.

It might have been a legitimate - if badly worded - question if Cav hadn't won the national champs in Glasgow just two years ago in a similar manner...
