If you're going to try a bare faced lie, best make sure you can't be discredited by CCTV footage. Did he get lessons from Ryan Lochte?

The response now is 'how dare you use evidence to defend yourselves from our accusations and make us look stupid, we're going to complain about data protection'. I did respect him and felt he was being unfairly treated by his own party but now he has just shown he is yet another liar hiding behind a pretence of honourability that his disciples seem to be unable to see through.

I don't believe that many people actually want to spend their life earning cr@p wages, on benefits or engaged in petty crime - I think that happens because they don't see an alternative.

We seem to accept that previous generations placed more emphasis on education, but those generations had even less social mobility than we have now. Were wages not crap and housing not poor in the 50s, 60s and 70s? Social mobility? Kids left school at 14, then 15 to work in factories or down the pit in my family's case.
I am sure that you are not equating low earning with poor parenting skills. I can't see how sending kids to school in nappies, unable to talk or use cutlery can be linked to low social mobility either.
Previous generations who were not 'upwardly mobile' managed to toilet train their kids didn't they?

well, if you dont want parenting intervention, then what to do? the only other solution is sterilisation......

we need to stop these kids becoming like their parents, as for spending and class sizes, been debunked, latest research says early years is where kids benefit from much smaller class sizes.

Jezza on the train PR backfire. Love it. So glad I'm a centre right Tory not a centre left Labour watching this. Entertainment and with luck Tories able to move towards the centre again. Tory governments till 2025?

Stevo, are you able to go to the Labour party conference this year with your class of membership? The answer could be "what conference?". Seriously they can't get security because their previous contractor, g4s, was banned by the NEC because of their bad practises around the world (human rights violations).

The only other contractor to bid for the job won't sign a union recognition agreement. This means the GMB is officially in dispute and if not sorted in 5 weeks time they'll picket the Labour party conference. Cue union representatives being unable to attend along with the union backed MPs. Len McCluskey is also having spat with the GMB union over this with the GMB general secretary practically accusing Len McCluskey's union of interfering and trying to get an inferior agreement through.

Don't you just love the lefties duking it out through "leaks". If I was more politically aware I'd probably get some insight into it by looking at who each side leaked their "private" letters to.

Time for a Harry Hill style way of sorting out their dispute. Corbyn vs the other candidate. Corbyn vs Hillary Benn. McCluskey vs Tim Roache. Then Theresa May vs Corbyn or the other guy if he flukes a win. I'd bet on ms May. I think she'd fight dirty and underhanded. Just the way a political mover and shaker should.

Corbyn was on about the NHS today. Apparently he walked through a ward past a load of empty beds but couldn't find anywhere to lie down.
He really is the gift that keeps giving isn't he?

You accused me of being a leftie Stevo but how can I be if I'm enjoying the Labour predicament as much as you. Socialism's latest or last throw of the dice is that clown! Glad they didn't pick someone with ability beyond a talent for showing his party up.

Next stop a school visit making the argument how Tories are failing kids. In front of a banner saying how it's the best year for GCSEs and the ofsted gave it an outstanding rating!

Well it could happen. He's messed up on the railway.massage with that video so education must be high on his priority.

I almost feel sorry for Labour supporters.... er, sorry , that's a lie. Not a Corbyn sized lie but a lie non the less.
The best person who they can dig up to try to stop Jezza is Owen Smith.
The Labour party should continue to campaign against Britain’s exit from the European Union and a public vote should be held on the terms of any replacement trade deal before article 50 is invoked, Owen Smith has said.

    http://www.theguardian.com/politics/201 ... ght-brexit

Aside from the fact that he actually voted to hold the referendum (vote was 544 to 53), how does he expect to vote on terms before A50 is triggered? We can't even start negotiations until after it is triggered.
Whatever the result of this 2nd referendum, is that to be ignored as well.

The irony of claiming the result was based on misinformation and then putting out this bilge...

Either that or he is as thick as mince.

Corbyn's train video stunt was entertaining. What isn't entertaining is the congestion on certain routes in peak times. Instead of listening to Corbyn the powers that can make decisions about trains need to listen to actual passengers who use these routes as part of their normal life for work or other. Nobody listens to them.

BTW I've spoken to someone who's taken that route Corbyn was on and it does get get congested without free seats available at times a reserved seats empty waiting for the person to find b them, etc. Basically they need more carriages at times or certainly something. Seems he just picked.the wrong time to travel to make his point properly without fakery.

He should go on a peak time train from South Wales to Bristol. In the last dozen times I've travelled from Severn Tunnel I haven't had a seat and on the worst days (one less carriage than normal) people were getting left on the platform. He either travelled outside peak or on a particularly quiet route, having enough space to sit on the floor is luxury!

I'm loving the trains now that I've moved to Brookwood (from Guildford). The trains from Alton/Basingstoke are a lot less crowded than the Portsmouth trains and I always get a seat, normally with an empty seat next to me.

I always get a seat on my Southeastern Service into London (rush hour travelling times for me). Got a double one this morning which isn't that unusual.

Only the slow trains stop at Brookwood. Everyone at Fleet+Farnborough tries to get on the one that goes non-stop from Farnborough to Clapham.

May be its slow to Brookwood, but they only have 1 stop at Woking before fast into London, and half the trains home are 1st stop Brookwood. I guess that makes the difference though - I'm now catching "slow" trains whereas the ones that used to stop at Guildford were all fast trains from Portsmouth, hence were rammed.

I have done, but not in a year or more. Its just too far with an early start and late finish, really not enjoyable. Its at least a 70 mile round trip, and I can get 55 miles in an evening which is more enjoyable.

I pedal in a couple of times a week and take the train the other days when I'm in the office. I'm too old/unfit to ride in every day but it makes for a bit of variety and taking public transport allows me to have a few beers in town from time to time :)

Maybe the cuts being proposed across NHS and already AE depts in Staffs and Lincoln closed (due to lack of trained docs etc) we need to be more concerned about this, than whether another dicj head of a politician wants a bit of PR ?

whatever the rights an wrongs of the NHS, it is clearly under funded for its present obligations and to me, neither party seems to be redressing this.

Have a look at the graph below.

Every year we spend more and every year people say 'we need to spend more'. As important as spending itself is how it is spent as no amount of spending ever seems to keep people happy. As I've said before, just chucking money at public services without increasing the effectiveness of the spending is not the answer. As the last Labour govt found out when they ran out of money.

I was going to post a graph similar to Stevo's, a quick google shows that NHS spending has practically doubled in the past 11 years.

If someone asserts that the NHS is underfunded, and hence should receive more finding, they also need to state what is overfunded and hence can be cut to pay for the additional NHS funding.

Money doesn't grow on trees, there's a finite amount of it, and spending more in one area means spending less in another. Its all about priorities. And to Stevo's point, its not just the amount that's important, but how its spent. I also think the NHS need to do a better job of setting expectations on what its obligations are and are not e.g. people need to take some responsibility for their own health (obesity, smoking, alcohol related illnesses) and not just expect the state to. Prevention is better than cure as my Mum would say.
