I just find them a bit boring, much prefer phil and paul0

Boulting and Marianne Vos commentating on the womens Tour next week apparently - Have to say the times I ve heard Vos speal (plus the time I met her, did I ever tell you about that?) she wasnt someone who I would have guessed had a talent for commentary I confessWe're in danger of confusing passion with incompetence

If it's Boulting and Millar v Kirby and Kelly for the tour then I am afraid I am with ITV. I wanted to like Carlton after Harmon left but I can't honestly believe that someone who watches as much cycling as he does/has to can be so sh/t.0

Just to deviate slightly, does anyone know what David Harmon is doing now?
Is there any chance he'll get back on Eurosport..... or ITV4 for that matter.I'm not getting old... I'm just using lower gears......

Someone told me he was doing some kind of cycling dinner/presentation or something they went to - can't remember what it was now - no doubt he'd like to get back into TV commentary but I can't see it happening.[Castle Donington Ladies FC - going up in '22]0 -

As Rick and DeVlaeminck say its highly unlikely Harmon will ever come back.
I must admit I'm surprised at how many people, particularly as who post here are reasonably well informed on cycle racing, haven't taken to Millar as a commentator. I'm guessing it's his conversational style (which I like) that puts some off. Now when I listen to other commentators every statement is so measured it's almost scripted. I like Boulting's and Millar's more relaxed approach.0 -
For the Tour I'd like Boulting and Millar's commentary and Sporza's pictures please.
Both Eurosport and ITV are driving me nuts with their endless (ES) or long (ITV) ad breaks."Science is a tool for cheaters". An anonymous French PE teacher.0 -

As long as cycling in on television I don't care who the commentator is.

Eh? I may get myself a Carlton Kirby T-shirt for the Tour so that I can differentiate myself from you halfwits who like amateur commentary and deaf Belgian composers.0 -
For the Women's Tour on ITV, Ned is back front of camera, with Vos.
You get Hugh Porter on comms.....

I think you should do that - create a few with the great man's favourite phrases in the style of the Cycling Podcast t-shirts.0 -

I couldn't stand Millar and Ned at first (a few weeks ago at TdY) but don't mind them now. Same for Rob Hatch who has got pretty good. Kirby on the other hand was annoying to start and is actually getting worse. Last year he was so bad at the tour I resorted to the clowns on itv4!"Unfortunately these days a lot of people don’t understand the real quality of a bike" Ernesto Colnago0

It won't be Boulting and Millar at this year's Tour for ITV. But in 2016...0 -

With the Women's Tour, I don't think they are commentating live. They add it over the highlights after the event.Twitter: @RichN950 -
Not sure who this is a comment on but I can guess.

Is cycling commentary always this terrible? Think I'm going to have to watch La Vuelta with the volume turned off.0 -

I was going to be bitchy, but I won't bother.0

Are they commentating live, or commentating over the highlights show having watched the stage?
If they're live, there was a great moment yesterday when Millar said "this is where Chaves will have to attack..and he does!" that was so perfectly timed it seemed unreal0 -

Commentating live, I think. Thats the usual M.O.0 -

Yes, but it was so obvious that sitting at home I could see that Chaves had to attack then, does that qualify me for a commentating gig?0 -

Doesn't matter how much I try not to dislike David Millar, it's just impossible.
He puts so much effort into trying to appear not to be trying/bothered that any interesting/relevant nuggets that most other commentators would miss get lost in his monotone voice.
He's like the Harry Enfield character 'Kevin' without the petulant outbursts.0 -

I think the main difference between Millar and Boulting is that Boutling will be commentating from an outside perspective. He's always looking at the action going on from an armchair perspective, having to give the info in the same way that a commentator would watching the Grand National.
Whereas Millar is always commentating as if he's sitting on the bike right in the action. It all might sound obvious, but i think its forgotten when watching, but that subtle difference is what makes Millar a few seconds in front of Boulting when commentating. He's always going to be on the ball quicker in that respect while Boulting is fumbling about trying to recognise a certain rider.0
