There are no excuses. These guys are professional athletes and they are riding at their max. Turning up for a TT which you banked your entire race around and for which half this forum thinks you will win (clouded judgement) and riding at 75% or whatever is a complete joke.

The wind has changed significantly. There's your excuse.

If you have some facts for that rather than ES or CN opinion, let me know.

Hell of a ride from the guy so dodgy Rabobank would rather buy him out of hi contract.

These are National TT champ colours fyi.

Which he hasn't won since he was bought out of his contract by a team who's sponsor was so embarrassed about the team they would rather pay *not* to have their name on the jersey.

Michael Rogers just interviewed telling it's very windy. Rolf Sørensen (commentator over here) says it.

I mean, do you think everyone suddently decides to race significantly slower than first half bunch of the peloton?

My man Lars Bak just whooped your girlfriend Alberta's ass on the first 17 km without even having a real go at it. And Lars isn't even that good on the TT.

They weigh the same and Contador has over a decade worth of consistent form in ITT.

Absolutely. He beat multiple world champion Cancellara who is a good 10kg heavier than him.

Contador back in virtual pink already. No surprise vs. Aru though, commentators saying this is the longest ITT he has competed in.

Almost looks like Porte is now targeting an unlikely stage win and is conserving energy today.
You think he'll still be in the race tomorrow?

Why wouldn't he? So he can recover, train at tenerife then pace Froome up the climbs?

Do real champions just give up when they lose time? What kind of attitude is that? How could a fan back a rider like that?

I really hope he stays in the race.

Taller riders go faster in a TT?

This hill was so severe that Wiggins, Millar and Zabriskie were also top ten that day. And they danced away fro! Everybody on the preceding apline stages too... Oh wait

I was on the hill. In person. Cancellara crawled up it. He is a gruppetto rider on the mountain stages so not surprising.

Contador was ahead on the first split which was over the first ~20km of pure flat.
