Boris Johnson will seek a Brexit extension from the EU if no withdrawal deal is reached by 19 October, government documents say.

The revelation in a Scottish court appears to be a direct contradiction of what the prime minister has said in public, insisting there would be no further delay and that the UK would leave the bloc on 31 October, with or without an agreement.

Soon to be found 'dead in a ditch'...
  • [Well thank the stars then that Parliament is quite capable of repealing or amending existing acts or producing others.

That's not straightforward with a govt majority of -43

hahah yes potentially but legislation that would enable a supported Brexit agreement should be easier to pass (in principal).

and potentially very quickly too to enable the deal to be agreed before the 31st October.

A source confirms all this means is that Government will obey the law.

It does not mean we will extend.

It does not mean we will stay in the EU beyond Oct 31.

    We will leave. https://t.co/LuVt45rMAr

    What a moron.

A cheating liar yes but moron?

He saw the Leave campaign sell Brexit to enough voters to win the referendum. They swallowed the lies so easily.

He has evidence to show they are stupid enough to believe this deceit. Not that I would call Leave voters morons of course, just very easily taken in, poor creatures.

We have been told for years that the great british public knows what they are doing, they can smell a rat and there is wisdom in crowds.

If the pubic are stupid and dont know what they are doing well neither do it leaders. This is also an agrument for dictorship as why give the vote to the stupid. Stupidity is not what drove brexit. Humans can convince themsleves an alternate reality is true, in fact leavers think remainers are in a deluded alternate relaity. Who can honestly say. also it possible the english no longer care about how rich they are and how much world influence they have. It is possible that the foundations of liberal western democracy are not no longer held as important by half the voting public. Thats could be what we are seeing.

this case started just after the ben act passed and johson said I'll die in a ditch before I ask for an extension.

Not sure about the rocket. A friend of mine had a similar idea but, instead, it involved a large circus cannon on Beachy Head, facing South. It not only provided some entertainment for the masses but also provided the chance at rehabilitation as, if you could make it back to shore alive, you were allowed to start again with a clean slate.

It doesn't mentioned hard borders. Only reference is to "the removal of security installations".

    Which surely is?

No, it refers to the military posts which were on the border.

The working assumption is that the military would need to defend the customs posts.

Interestingly the PSNI Chief Constable has told the PM that the PSNI 'won't police customs checkpoints'

Not sure what exactly that means or if the PSNI 'can' refuse to police customs checkpoints.

It's not a police job is it? Surely it should be handled by Customs & Excise?

Given that in this case it is unjustified slagging of Gove, who would you expect to do it?

I wonder how far people will need to travel to these places away from the border that they'll need to go to for their customs checking. Bit of a bummer if you need to make a 5 mile deliver via a 50 mile round trip to a customs check point not at the border. There's probably a reason why border customs checks are normally carried out at the border....
they'll try to do it with just two, one at Omagh, one at Armagh. what could go wrong?

I am sure a few people will moan but why not straighten out the border and utilise those two big lakes it would more than halve the problem.

Are you serious ? You may as well say we have to Annex Ireland as that will sort out the problem. I'm sure it won't be much more fuss.

Try reading the link again as it sets out exactly what he said. Then quote the bit where you think he makes this comparison because I can't see it.

51% remain seat with a huge Tory majority that was present even before Grieve became the MP.
