Nice to see Hincapie racing injecting some fresh blood in the Amgen Tour of California.

That was bloody close. Think Sagan was just edged into 4th.

Yeah, need to wait for the photo. No doubt about Cav's win though!

Simultaneous celebrations by both teams here, some confusion obviously :)

The stage has finished already? I was just about to go and find a stream. It's only 11.35 in California. What time did they start?

    Oh yes.

    Congratulations Sagan. Great win.

    Nice work Cavendish.

I wish EU races did one of these TourTrackers. It is really super.

I wonder if Etixx might have been better off setting up both Cavendish and Renshaw to sprint for the win.

It looked at one point that Alaphillipe was on Cav's wheel to try and follow him through, but I'm also surpirsed Trentin wasn't more involved.

Difficult though, when Sagan's so fast

He must win so many WT points in a season.

Could there be anything worse than hoping Tylar Farrar can 'win' a sprint for you. That man would finish 3rd in two rider sprint.

But did you see Sagan after he finished? He looked wrecked. He coughed, lay down, got up, wheezed for a while, couldn’t talk for a minute or two … I don’t think it’s a forgone conclusion that he will be able to sprint well tomorrow. Assuming a breakaway takes the intermediate sprint time bonus, he’ll need third place at the finish. Very doable, maybe even probable, but far from in the bank.

This comes to mind because I may have it myself.

It is very restrictive and feels like you have a small flower/leaf stuck in your airway and no amount of coughing removes it, because of course, it is not there anyway. A minute later it is gone.

I think Wippert will be back riding for one of the top teams next season, didn't look too shabby against a very much on form Cav. Wasn't he pretty much second on every stage Cav won?

Cycling podcast fans - any comment on the story that Cav gave Sagan sprinting tips (i.e. wear an aero helmet) having beaten him by milimetres earlier in the race.

Thereby DIRECTLY losing Alaphillipe the GC when Sagan, now wearing said aero helmet, beat Farrar by milimetres?

    ;)

Tbf, if Sagan needs the benefits of an aero helmet explaining to him then he probably doesn't deserve that 4M Euro contract.

It's one thing choosing - while in possession of the fact - not to wear one for whatever reason - heat, comfort, whatever. But the idea that a pro cyclist hasn't heard of the benefits by now seems odd. I mean, I'm a fat cyclo-commuter who doesn't wear a helmet and even I know.

They made exactly that point (slightly tongue in cheek) that a pro rider should know these things, as evne thrid cat Brits are riding with aero helmets

It's an interesting point, Cav (Friebe) covers it really well in the World Champ Chapter of his 2nd book...
