    Two points to mention:
Given he only weighs a Rujano and Pozzo level of weight now his TT should suffer significantly so dont hold out hopes of this 58kg rider putting minutes into Contador.
Sky are piloting a new project where the team leader sleeps in a camper van as many nights as possible. This seems to be better manage disruption from hotels and also a psychological aspect. Also says that Richie prefers to be by himself then with his team members.
"Camper van" is underplaying it somewhat.

This is the actual mobile home he's using (not the same model, the actual one) http://www.empirerv.co.uk/vehicle/fleet ... rettyPhoto

It's certainly a hell of a lot better than the average hotel room they stay in

Wow that is unreal. Cannot believe they give that to one man. Must be the Conservative elitism. Hope he gets ripped to shreds from the Pinto pistelero who clawed his way out of poverty.

In more important news, Contador is indeed wearing those black shoes. This is really quite a problem for the photos. Bloody American sponsors.

It's decent enough. Rumour is Richie Porte is of pikey stock and prefers the homely feel of a caravan.

Oooh Hey budddy! How are you doing?

Judging from the interior, they probably picked it up good and cheap...

Wow, Richie Porte seems to be capable of being all things to all men, a conservative elite and Roma.

Amazing, how does he do it?

If that is being used just to accommodate a single rider I think it is offensively extravagant and excessive

It is. But Brailsford's logic is that Porte would be in a hotel room by himself anyway and he eats with the team so it is ok.

Never mind the dough, I'd be as embarrassed as a Londoner in a stealth Range Rover at the conspicuous consumption of energy and noxious emissions. I guess Richie feels he's worth a bigger carbon footprint. The team have always lavished personal coaches on their favourite riders after all.

It's a big outlay for this particular marginal gain. Hey ho, let's see if it has the desired effect.

Hopefully it won't be seen with the rear end hanging over the edge of a mountain pass with Richie at the far end and Brailsford lying face down trying to reach him saying "Hang on lads I've had a great idea"

Seems quite cheap for what it is. I don't quite get it though, I imagine it's noisier in the car park than in the hotel.

Stage 11 runs down the east coast and looks to have echelon potential if an easterly wind blows. Forecast is for ESE wind direction so promising but unfortunately only 4mph :(

Contador faces the calamity of losing to two different Sky riders: Brailsford 2 | 0 Tinkov. What a way to end an illustrious career.

Question, why is only the third of four climbs on that stage classified? Surely they'll have all the bunting up each time, but they're only counting the points on one go.

More craziness from the Giro, seem to remember Cav sprinting for points each lap in Trieste the other year...

Uran's 2014 Giro TT exploits: 3 mins into Aru. What will Richie do?
At 59.4km the tough individual time trial is Uran’s lifeline. Over a year ago that would have sounded like a rather peculiar statement but in last year’s rolling test to Barolo, Uran decimated the field with a time trialing master class. He came into the stage second overall, 57 seconds down on Cadel Evans’ maglia rosa, and 42 seconds up Aru. By the end of the day Uran was in pink, Evans was 37 down and Aru way back at 3:37.

He didn't do too badly in 2013 on the stage Alex Dowsett won.

That was over 52 k, rolling terrain and he lost two minutes 44. In the Vuelta last year which was up and down a climb and a bit of flat (the reverse of Saturday's stage) he lost 2 mins to Tony M.

As I said on another thread, I think he'll lose around 2 and a half to the stage winner, 2 minutes to Porte (if he's not the stage winner) and 90 seconds to Contador

Amazing that the general feeling is so sure that a 57kg (probably 56kg by the start of the TT) rider will put several minutes into a 65kg rider who is a future multiple GT winner.

Aru has shown world class form since he got on the bike. Porte has only got one top ten (7th) in a GT and he is 30. Aru is 24 and has a THIRD and FIFTH in a GT in the same year.

So if Porte beats Aru it will be highly unusual.

nb. 3rd behind uber GT heavyweight Quintana and solid Uran and 5th behind all time greatest Contador, ferocious Froome, all round victor Valverde and raging Rodriguez.

The guy is pure talent and exciting into the bargain. My man from 2011.

Porte has seven pro victories in time trials, and 26 TTs in the top five.

    Aru's best result is 16th
