I agree with Hob Nob. It's the mid stroke dive I don't like and would like to sort. Unfortunately I went car shopping yesterday and will for the foreseeable future I will have no money for bike bits, I think my new toy might be a bit thirsty!Transition Patrol - viewtopic.php?f=10017&t=130702350

Bike looks mint with those pikes on! We've just had some Scouts and Patrols come into work with Sektors or 350's and while nice they both need a pike or a 36/34 on the front to them justice. They look great fun to ride though!0

Today I had a amazing five hour ride on the Quantocks. Went out on my own but ended up showing some visiting riders around and obviously had to do all the best trails and finish up on the steepest, nastiest trail.
Every time I ride this bike I'm amazed at just how good it is. The new fork is pretty nice as well.

I was nosing around the Transition website the other day comparing the 5010 and the Scout (not that I plan to buy either but plans change right?!) - I sit (at 5'6) on the cusp of the small medium for the Scout and, as SC don't show overlap in their size/height scale, on the bottom end of the medium 5010 (and Bronson).
I find myself hankering after that slightly lighter slightly more nimble shorter travel bike (much as I like the Bronson) and these two are definitely getting my wallet nervous. Looking at the geos I think I'd edge a Medium Scout but might go for a small 5010 in its new iteration.Closet jockey wheel pimp whore.0 -
The 5010 is really nice. The only reason I went for the Scout is that I know a pro freerider who rides for Transition, the things he has done on his Scout certainly convinced me that it's a solid frame. I have also never known him as enthusiastic about one of his bikes. After borrowing his Scout for a weekend I ordered one straight away.
I'm sure the 5010 is probably as good.Transition Patrol - viewtopic.php?f=10017&t=130702350 -
Just gotta say Rockmonkey, I love it when I meet people like you on unfamiliar trails. I've made a few friends when someone has kindly showed me routes in new places.
Hear so many good things from all of Transition's bikes. Definitely on the "what next" list.Stumpjumper FSR Comp 650B http://www.bikeradar.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=10017&t=13032340

It's quite nice to show visitors the best bits of my favourite riding area and see how much they enjoy it. It reminds me how lucky I am to be able to ride there regularly.
It can be difficult to judge the competence of people before taking them down some of the more adventurous trails. I saved the steepest, hairiest trail for after most of them had dropped out and gone to the pub!Transition Patrol - viewtopic.php?f=10017&t=130702350 -
Probably a good idea on their part to be fair. This time last year when I got my first proper bike, me, my wife and my mate met a guy who knew the local trails. I learned a lot that day because I got to explore my limits.
Anyway, I'm blabbing on. I'm waiting for Christmas to come and go so I can decide on a new fork. Pike is still on the list, but I'm tempted by the 2015 Fox 34 (can get them for less than £400 now).
Been waiting for months for some bottomless tokens for the Rev to see if I can make them feel a bit nicer. Can't seem to find a sweet spot with the pressure, they still feel harsh to me, but I don't want to bottom out running the pressure too low.
Be interesting to see how you fare long term with the Pike.Stumpjumper FSR Comp 650B http://www.bikeradar.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=10017&t=13032340

I looked at the 34's. Anything but the FIT4 models are best avoided.
Have you ever serviced your Revs? They often don't have enough (or any) oil from new. My Pikes were dry in the air spring and there was nowhere near enough lower lube in one leg.Transition Patrol - viewtopic.php?f=10017&t=130702350 -
I was going to give them their first service when the tokens arrived. To be honest, I'll think I'll order some service items this week and do it sooner. If it makes a bit difference, I won't be in as much as a rush to replace it.
Are all forks under-lubed from the factory? Seems a bit worrying as a lot of people who buy bikes don't even check their pads.Stumpjumper FSR Comp 650B http://www.bikeradar.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=10017&t=13032340

I think I'm pretty much sold on getting a scout frame and I just wonder about fork travel.
As the rear suspension travel is around 130mm what is the ideal travel for the front?
I've seen a 130mm pike in 27.5 but not seen many 140mm travel pike forks, would it put the geometry of the bike out running a fork lower than 140?0 -
-
140mm is recommended by Transition and the complete bikes come with 140mm Pikes.
I spoke to Transition before going to a 150mm fork and they said it's fine. It's a little better for downhill. It's worth noting that the Pike is shorter than some other forks of the same travel.
I wouldn't go shorter than 140mm though and I definitely wouldn't use a 32mm fork. The Scout is best when ridden hard so it needs a stiff fork.Transition Patrol - viewtopic.php?f=10017&t=130702350 -

Nope. I'm loosing enthusiasm for riding so need a new challenge.
I've just bought a Yeti DJ frame and a set of Halo Freedom wheels. Need to find a set of old style Pikes or Argyles.
I'm going to do some dirt jumping and 4x. This time next year I want to have a few tricks in the bag.
Might pick up a cheap hardtail for the occasional xc ride.Transition Patrol - viewtopic.php?f=10017&t=130702350 -
The time has come for a change so I'm selling the Scout frame and shock. It's been an absolutely awesome bike and I'm so impressed that the only frame that could replace it is a Patrol.
It's a 2014 large frame with Cane Creek DB Inline shock. If you're interested, drop me a message.
One careful lady owner etc
