Thats a great looking bike and looks purposeful with it. Can see why you're so happy with it.Bird Aeris : Trek Remedy 9.9 29er : Trek Procaliber 9.8 SL0

It's simple to fit, looks nice and does the job well. There's no Velcro or cable ties etc, it's molded to fit tightly around the frame, you warn it up in hot water to soften it and then open it out a touch to get it over the tube.
Sounds good, cheers0 -
New for graphics looking proper pimp 8)
Thought you didn't care about how things looked...All the gear, no idea and loving the smell of jealousy in the morning.

For £15 it was worth it. I do like an ugly bike though! Have a look at my other bike, that fell out of the ugly tree, then beaten with the ugly stick and run over with the ugly bus.Transition Patrol - viewtopic.php?f=10017&t=130702350

Really fancy building one of these , starting to think my Capra is OTT and I'm sure the scout could handle some enduro racing and trips in the lakes .

Thanks. It's certainly more than up to the odd enduro race and I found it to be spot on for the lakes, easy to ride up and a blast to ride down. I'm off to the Alps with it in a few weeks, can't wait for that.Transition Patrol - viewtopic.php?f=10017&t=130702350

I did the enduro1 at Greatwood this weekend. Absolutely brilliant route, some of the trails wouldn't have been out of place in a DH race. Still recovering from a severe abdominal wall injury so just cruised around.
Still absolutely loving the bike :-)

The top tube is very low but it's a large frame.
I'm thinking about getting a suppressor but I recon I'm inbetween a medium and a small going by Transitions guide. Not sure what to so for. recon the small will not be long enough though. tried measuring up my bike but its not making much sense lol0 -
If I was going 26" the Suppressor would be the only choice. Meta brummie with one, he absolutely loved it.Transition Patrol - viewtopic.php?f=10017&t=130702350

I've been thinking about getting a Suppressor frame also. I'm just worried about the 're-sellability' when it comes to it in a few years. I've also been considering getting a Patrol and running 26"wheels and fork on it until I can afford to upgrade! Not sure what it would do to the geometry though.0
-
Patrol has a low enough BB as it is without smaller wheels. They're also sold out for this year.Transition Patrol - viewtopic.php?f=10017&t=130702350

don't care about the resellability of the frame but want somthing modern. I can swap most of my stuff over to the suppressor frame but don't want the frame to be too big or too small. there are no transition dealers near me to try any of their bikes.0
-
I would let you try mine but as you are in Scotland and I'm in sunny Somerset it's not going to happen! I don't think you're going to want a large bike either.
Have you compared geometry to your bike?Transition Patrol - viewtopic.php?f=10017&t=130702350 -
yeah but my bike is older so its difficult to tell. The ETT is 5mm more on mine than the medium and 35 on a small. not sure about stack/reach as I'm not at home at mo. wheel base is 1110 on mine 1151/1181 on the tranny while the standover is massively different so even the medium is much better.
I want the bike to be more flickable than my current ride.
edit stack/reach 600/400 for mine and 593/432 M, 584/406 S always thought I could do with more reach, maybe M would be best
there is a place in Edinburgh with a medium scout so at least I can go there and see what its like. I'm verging on a a small though0 -
The Scout was awesome at Val d'isare. A few fork issues after the first couple days but soon sorted.Transition Patrol - viewtopic.php?f=10017&t=130702350 -
It's been a month now since I last rode my Scout. A combination of a fairly severe back injury and the forks being dead. The damping gave up in France and to be honest I want a better fork anyway so I'm now waiting for a Rockshox Pike RCT3 solo air to arrive from Germany.
My long term plan is to fit a Fast Suspension damper. The standard Pike is OK but there is a lack of adjustment and some room for improvement.
The fork is 150mm, I emailed Transition to check it would be ok and they said it will be great, some of them have the same set up on their Scouts.Transition Patrol - viewtopic.php?f=10017&t=130702350 -

They're the gloss black ones with white Rockshox logos so not the ideal colours but I might get some matt black graphics from Slick.Transition Patrol - viewtopic.php?f=10017&t=130702350

New forks fitted. The ones which arrived were the 2016 model rather than the 2015 model shown on the Rose website so they were a bargain. Apparently the 2016 model has some damper upgrades to improve reliability.
Just a bit of maintenance needed, last time I rode it was in the Alps so it's not on top form. Nothing some grease, adjustment and tweaking won't fix though.Transition Patrol - viewtopic.php?f=10017&t=130702350 -

Looks nice.
Check the serial number as just because it has 2016 stickers does not mean its got new internals I'm afraid. The later Pikes produced had a more refined damper seal anyway so the chances of a failure on them was far less.0 -
-
Yep, 2016 serial number.
Nice one!It has quite a few small but worthwhile refinements to the damper. Nice to have the option of different rebound tunes as well.0 -
It's not my intention for these forks to remain in their standard state long term. I really wanted Fox 34's but I'm too poor to spend nearly a grand on a set.
These will be getting some tuning and probably a Fast Suspension upgrade.
Pikes are OK but compared to the latest generation of Fox forks they're just a bit crudely damped.Transition Patrol - viewtopic.php?f=10017&t=130702350 -
Really?
To be honest I didn't find the fox to be all that much better.. 34 was flexier and 36 was heavier and the pike hung the middle ground with similar performance IMO but costing a ton less.0 -
The Fox has an improvement on that mid stroke dive the Pike seems to suffer from.
The Fast cartridge is pretty nice, it goes some way to addressing that problem, I had one in my Pike as I blew the Charger cartridge up & this was cheaper than a RS replacement.
It doesn't unfortunately resolve the real Pike issue though, creaking crowns. Everyone I ride with who has had a set of Pikes have warrantied them at least once for this. Thankfully the 36's don't seem to suffer the same problem.0 -
Not suffered any of that.. Found the pike really supportive actually...0
-
It's quite common thing, hence people stuffing them full of tokens. Better midstroke & bottom out control. But then they also get a bit 'spikey' when the trails are nasty. The new 36 (not sure about the 34) seems to get better the harder you go, rather than worse, which is the opposite to the Pike IMO.
The crown issue is because they are so light - I don't think there is enough meat on them for people who are racing & maybe going a bit harder. The new Lyric is an obviously a beefed up version to try and stop some of this.0
