Well done. Which charity? The FtT benevolent fund?

Battle Battens: a rare condition. A local family are unique within the world as they have twins with the condition. They will not live to be adults and the ride was to raise funds to set up research into the condition. The initial target was £20k but we have now passed the £50k mark thanks to the generosity and motivation of the local populous. Something of which I'm very proud of as Hucknall folk tend towards apathy.

    Liar - it was 374.88.

I read your Scotland blog then fell asleep halfway. Nice pictures though :D

@FtT. Very good, well done as I said before. That is the problem with rare diseases, not sufficient collective interest to try to find a cure (or monetary gain - but that's just my cynicism).

24 hours in the national champs. First attempt, fairly modest total, right leg stopped working by hour 22, was looking good for 400 up until about hour 18. Guess I will have to give it another go - probably a 2016 project.

The big boys are doing 500+ and are a sight to behold.

Not cynical at all it's true.

Had Ebola been a disease that killed A list celebs, rather than poor black Africans I can't help but think there would have been a lot more funding to find a cure.

  • There's only one Tommy Godwin.

Well, actually there were two famous cycling Tommy Godwins but only one cycled 200ish miles a day for a year. Awesome!

Probably something for another thread, but this is what a friend has planned for next year.

I feel such a wuss, just 120 miles, having said that I ind that if I plan a 30, 60 or 80 miler, regardless of the distance at the end of the planned distance it's just enough. So based on that logic I'll plan a 500 miler and stop after 200 feeling fresh as a daisy :)
All lies and jest..still a man hears what he wants to hear and disregards the rest....
  • I feel like a light weight in this tread,

I did 200 hilly miles this year

I have done one or two but just short 100K hilly ones, I was going to do the National 400K but forgot about it.

Fancy a few challenges next year rather than just riding a lot.

Wow, some impressive miles in there ...

Most I've done is a 100 mile ride - ok, it was hilly and I hadn't done any specific distance training. I'd like to be able to say that I've ridden say 200 or 250 miles in a day, but I'm not sure I'd enjoy the day itself.

I'm on target for a measly 5000 miles this year - it's tailed off a lot this last month which isn't my usual way. I'm thinking that perhaps I've not focused correctly this year. Oh well, it's only a bit of fun. I'm not putting down a distance target for next year - I've had 3 years of reaching target and this is the first year of only just reaching it (I say only just - I'm 180 miles off it and I'll easily achieve that in the last few weeks of the year).
So, break year next year - I'll set some targets, but smaller ones this time - I'm TTing now and have a place for the RideLondon100 so I can set myself some time goals for those.

According to Strava, my longest ride is the Coast to coast in a day ride - 148.9miles from Seascale to Whitby.

  • 113.8 miles or 183km. Seems like a half hearted attempt given the numbers above but it was an effort for me.

Bearing in mind some people I work with would probably struggle to pedal 1 mile on a bike let alone 113.8miles, it is not half hearted...

201km (~125miles) with a few tough climbs thrown in.
That was a sportive and I was pushing fairly hard as I tend to do in sportives so I was really suffering by the end. I might try some longer rides in future but if I do I think I'd be aiming to make them more relaxed cross country rides with friends.

123.8 Miles, I had already done 3 days of 90-100 mile rides on our 2011 London to Paris the long way way round, this was the 4th and final day, the first 70 were killers, the remaining 50 odd miles flew by.

Done L2P 3 times now, the first time 300 miles in 3 days in 2010, the 2011 and 2013 we go London - Portsmouth, St. Malo - Laval, Laval - Ferte Bernard, Final Day Ferte Bernard - Paris, this works out about 400 miles in total.

Done a good number of centuries, but I get bored after 90 miles and me ass kills me, so chapeau to you lads that can do 200miles +

Look - 6.4 miles isn't too bad ... especially if it's back from the pub after consuming 15 pints .... ;)

130 miles. On a £60 steel bike with only half of the gears working. And I was attacked by literally thousands of mosquitoes (the insect, not the WW2 bomber). And I got caked in a thick layer of Danube slime, as did my bike. And I took a wrong turn and ended up getting chased out of the Budapest Mental Institute. I really do need to get satnav.

John, did you ride along the Danube heading towards Vac or the opposite way to Lake Balaton? If so no mozzies when I went in May this year, but beautiful ride, we could have just ridden for ever on those paths.
  • 131.4 miles and 7217ft of hills on a cold horrible day in March 2013, blowing a gale so strong I was down to my lowest gear going across Salisbury plain (and only 40 miles into the ride) My first 200km Audax
