  • I get your point about reality checks and as the wheel expert are they still "good value" at £263?

In your case they will make you 15% faster...

They are wheels and I don't comment on performance, which is largely down to what the customer wants and expects... hence very much to the individual... assume they are fairly nippy for the money...
as a mechanic I hate them, as any job on them turns into a nighmare, but that's none of your concern. Just to give you a reference, I have never refused to repair Mavic wheels, where possible.
I would expect the vast majority of LBS refuse to repair them, even more so if you haven't bought them from them.

Just had an email saying it was a pricing error, very sorry, pulled and refunded as quick as we can, very sorry, now listed at correct price, very sorry, which is more than they were at last week (think they were £223).
It’s not like I missed out on something else by “buying” these anyway but why not say in the first place it was a pricing error.
They have been selling wheels including Zonda’s on Ebay so I’ll see what turns up there instead as not in a massive rush for some.

Soon I will be going back in time :D - bizarrely have been poring over my Strava results to see if I am deluded... now wondering if the recent course of EPO had a bigger effect than first thought.

The wheels got posted on hotukdeals and several forums. A big company like wiggle would definitely have something in place that picks up if a product is suddenly being ordered in unusual quantities.

Had exact same thing happen with something on amazon - a few lucky sods got them (food processors) but as soon as the initial warehouse stock was gone all the orders got cancelled. Lots of people moaned but they weren't entitled to anything.

Best case scenario here maybe a small gift voucher.

How can people get their knickers in a twist about this? If you had received the wheels for £163 you would have been lucky. How can you moan about Wiggle service when you didnt receive them? Its a bit like not winning the lottery and and then complaining about it and expecting a letter of apology from the NL.

I'm not convinced the pricing difference is sufficiently off to enable a straight forward claim of contract in error. I don't know anything about these wheels, would it be obvious to a buyer that it was an error? If not then they would have some difficulty establishing a defence on this basis and a court may order them to remedy the breach. In consumer contract law, you cannot limit your liability easily to fees paid, so the buyer could source from an other supplier and sue for difference. However, only a buyer who got as far as an order dispatch notice which from reading the terms is the final confirmation of acceptance.

Generally I'd say the seller's terms cover them well or though they do need to update them to comply with the The Consumer Contracts (Information, Cancellation and Additional Charges) Regulations 2013 which supersede the Consumer Protection (Distance Selling) Regulations 2000. There are also a couple of terms which would cause issue from an unfair terms in consumer contracts stand point.
  • Interestingly at no part in this thread is there a suggestion of mis-pricing... the only question raised is if the 2015 version will be much better so hang on for that

The 2015 is a tubeless ready version. I think everybody should try tubeless, as it's the future of road tyres, like it or not. They are better in any possible way and I'd go as far as saying worth paying extra for.
Factory wheels suffer from lack of spares and if the 2015 spares don't fit your 2014 model for any reason, you might find that even sourcing a spoke or a nipple could become extremely difficult as the very limited supply dries out.

IMO there is no intrinsic value in something that cannot be repaired. You would not buy a car that cannot be repaired, it would be worthless... so it might well be that even 160 quid it's way too much, as well as it might not...

Just this minute had another email:

Thank you for your recent order for the Campagnolo Zonda Clincher Wheelset.
Due to a listing error you purchased this product at an incorrect price, therefore we have had to cancel your order. We can only deeply apologise that we have let you down on this occasion and fully appreciate any disappointment this may cause.
We removed the product from sale as soon as we noticed the error and fully reimbursed all effected customers at the earliest opportunity.
The Wheelset has now been added back on site and is available to purchase at the correct price. Our team of product specialists are on hand to assist if you’d like help finding an alternative Wheelset.
Again, we offer our sincere apologies for the inconvenience that has been caused.
    Kind regards,
    Wiggle Customer Services

Seems fair enough I suppose - I was disappointed at first, but I'm over it now! Anyroad, it gives me more time to research new wheels for my cutom Rourke build which won't be ready until next summer anyway.

    So Ugo, what type...(joking!)

Looks little like a public relations trying to smooth things out – They should have just sent this yesterday.
For the record I’m not wound up about this (it was only £50 saving over best price elsewhere) and wasn’t that surprised when the orders got cancelled.
Now if it had been some £1000 plus wheels at £450 I would be a bit more miffed !

They gave me a £10 voucher as way of an apology. That's a result as it's £10 of credit I didn't have before.

Are you sure she didn't say something more along the lines of " See what happens when you don't ask me first!"

I was just about to let this one die as I was happy to accept it was a pricing error and not just an end-of-year clearout, when I have just this moment got an email from Wiggle telling me my order has been confirmed and sent out...

Anyone want to take bets on if it will actually turn up?

    :)

5 people I know ordered them and one set turned up. A bit strange as others ordered before him, but he did use next day shipping.

  • Maybe Wiggle needed a short term, interest free loan.
  • I imagine this is trickling it's way up through the company as the figure out how many were sent and how many people rolled over after the explanatory e-mail. They will then look at how valuable the customers are who are digging in their heels and then make their move.

Hazarding a guess at their margins I would offer a £100 credit to the accts of any who buy the wheels at £263. Or a free set of tyres when buying the wheels.

Either offer would make 99% of us very happy and have a more positive attitude towards Wiggle than before this all started.
  • Just got an e-mail saying my case is being referred to their complaints dept - does sound like their customer service dept are lodging a complaint about my unreasonable behaviour
  • My wheels were just delivered.

    Very pleased with them.

The sense of entitlement we have in our society is embarrasing though. Everyone wants to be outraged all the time. It's not like a close personal friend let you down... the biggest online bike retailer made a mistake and took 24 hours to send an explanation, it seems. As ugo says, if you are really so outraged then never buy from them again and go and support your local bike shop instead of jumping at a huge discount like a pack of rabid dogs.

What I think has happened is when someone noticed the problem yesterday they pulled the product on their system and it sent an automated cancellation email. Now today someone is sending proper explanation emails to the affected customers.

Seems like the simplest explanation to me - all this cloak and dagger stuff strikes me as a little unlikely.
