Youthful exuberance from Louis...he was strong and should have waited. Having ridden with the proper pros which is more than can be said for most of that field, maybe he should have known better.

My early stand out pick, Caleb Ewan finishes 2nd.

Hope he doesn't turn out to be the next Gerrans.
    Contador is the Greatest
  • A painfully boring race.
Almost 180kms of nothing, followed by a quick attack and downhill assault.
The bunch chasing had no organisation.

First 2 laps good, last 2 laps good, siesta in the middle.
  • A late solo move by a Norweigian (next Eddy Merckx lol) holds out by 50m from 40 odd riders.

Very good move, attacked on the final climb.

    Norway took bronze as we..

    Norway 1st, 3rd and 5th!

I will say that it was more animated than the junior women's race.

  • I saw Eddie Dunbar walk away with the Junior ToW, last month.
    Superb climbing display.

I'm watching the junior race, right now on Rai Sport 2 and he was well placed at the top of the second climb.

73kms to go and so far they've covered a tad over 50kms at an average of 40kph. The course is a fair bit softer than we were led to believe.

Most reports of people doing early recces of the course have been saying it wasn't too hard. Rain could make it harder tomorrow though
  • Starting the last lap. Same as before. Breakaway has a handful of seconds over a very big bunch.

Junior RR: Attack after attack. Half the field dropped. Crash after crash. Like an explosion in a cyclist factory. #Ponferrada2014

One of the break crashes on exactly the same spot as an U23 yesterday. Tricky corner leading onto the dam

That's it. I think both were Italian too. A bit of a groundhog day moment

  • Nice shots FJS.

Where did Eddie finish? The way he was absolutely murdering every field solo in the UK races I would expect him to be a protagonist. Unless this is another example of my point about poor strength in depth in the UK. Let's hope not. I may put it down to not being a selective enough course for him, which is why the Contador has no cares for this course.

  • And yet, still a big bunch sprint.
Loads of little attacks coming to nowt.
The climbs just don't seem sufficient to produce anything definitive.

Not Eddie Dunbar's preferred terrain, I would say.
    All the same, disappointing.

Bunch together, 87 km to go, steady pace. Shall we just skip the next few laps and restart at that last climb?

2 Dutch girls being dropped. National team sponsored by De Lotto. That already starts to looks like a Rabobank/Sky-style arrangement
  • Have the Dutch team overcooked themselves getting Vos back?
    Correlation is not causation.
  • No break and café ride pace in the bunch?
  • Just tuned in - has there been any significant breaks?
