    Hi All

Does anyone with a 6.20am - 6.40am start time want to swap with me 7.09am

All my pals are starting, at least, 30 minutes before me and won't wait.

PM me if this is of interest.

    Cheers

Prepared or not, there will be people out there with a massive range of abilities.

In 2013 Boris rode round on a hybrid in less than 8 hours. That should be a benchmark...

Like every other evening, I'll be out on my bike tonight to ensure that I'm as prepared as I can be and I'll prep my bike as well as I can to ensure that it's fit for this event - I have a new 12-30 cassette sitting on my desk right now and am debating whether to swap it for the 11-28 that's currently on my bike simply to give me best chance of riding up Leith Hill.

    So I'm doing my bit.
I would expect the 28 will be fine, and the closer ratios it gives means you can shift up and down as the gradient changes. I recall Leith being a series of ramps, and not stunt steep.
    I genuinely don't know why I've got a 06.24hrs start. Maybe I put 2½ hours down when I entered[/quote[
I reckon you will be over Leith before the traffic builds. Sit in groups and make the most of it!
I will try not to get in the way of faster riders but, in return, late-starting chain-gangs should respect less experienced and able riders for whom this event may be a big step into the unknown. Given them a bit of space!
You can't control other idiots. So just hold your line and try not to be surprised. If somebody comes too close, lean on them rather than swerve.

I know there has been a fair amount said re getting to the start but as I'm mildly panicking, forgive me for asking what is probably a silly question.

I am coming from South-East London and so am going to cycle to the o2 and use this 'southern blackwell tunnel' route which is laid out in the ride london final prep mag.

Question, will it be signposted and reasonably obvious where to go once I am through the other side of the tunnel and, how long will it take to get from there to the start?

I have looked online and read what I can but just can't find the info - any info/reassurances be warmly received from a first timer!

    Thanks

I've never used this route but I imagine that the O2 carpark will be very popular with those coming up from the Garden of England.

As the O2 is an official event carpark, I'm sure that there will be good signage. Otherwise just tag along with all the others but make sure that you're through the Blackwall Tunnel by 07.30hrs.

Alternatively, take the Emirates ski bubble from the O2 to ExCeL and ride from there.

Went out on a training ride this morning, unknowingly I had thrown in a couple of other hills into the route. Leith was much harder than I expected, Box I'm familiar with so no issues. Based on this morning I am looking at a 6 hr time, if I duck under that I will be happy.

Coming up from Devon and staying with friends in East Dulwich, presumed the easiest way was to ride to the start. But I need to be in my pen soon after 05:15
    Start Area: Orange
    Wave: C
    Wave Load opening time: 05:15
    Wave Load closing time: 05:45
    Start Time: 06:27

How long would it take to ride from E.Dulwich (SE22) to the start and what's the best route?

    All,

    Couple of questions;

I have a start time which is an hour later than my family members on the day - would it be possible to just load up with them on the day at their load time?

And, last year there was an IOS app called Ride100 which allowed you to track riders round the course. This is not available on the App store now - is there an equivalent available, or will this app resurface prior to the sportive?

    Thanks,

This is whats known as 'Que jumping' and you really should just go with your own morals rather than thinking that asking on here will make it right if you get the answer you want

You will have a different letter to everyone else in your wave, so hopefully they will not let you in, and if they do other riders will give you dirty looks at the very least.
Personally I think the time of anyone crossing the start mat early should be deleted and be banned from ever entering again.

It is however, very acceptable that your family members wait for/start with you though so why not do that?
If thats not acceptable to you then that kind of answers why you should not try to Que jump

If anything like last year you'll be fine to load up with them.

Can't tell you about the app from last year but if you are carrying an iPhone you could setup 'Find Freinds' or share location via iMessage?

I assume that the same will be up and running for this year's event.

Ahhh bless you. Thanks for the lesson on morals, but I will pass on this occasion. Reason I wanted to get in with my family members? Said family member has terminal cancer and although passed fit to ride on this occasion, he will not be around too long, and this ride is on his bucket list to complete. I just wanted to be able to share as much of the day's experience with him as possible.

Thank you to the other guys who answered my questions, much appreciated.

If someone is fit enough to ride 100 miles on a bike, how can medicine give up on him?

Carbonator didn't say you couldn't ride with your family. He suggested they wait and ride with you rather than you "jump the queue" and start earlier.

The waves weren't tightly policed last year.

And to the guy riding from Dulwich, IMO there's no need to be at the start line an hour beforehand, whatever the official bumf says. Have a steady ride up, allow for a puncture or a wrong turn, and aim to get there just before the pen closes. If you're late, you can join a later wave.

You really should have mentioned that in the first place if you feel it changes anything, rather than getting all arsey when someone who does not know tells you how it is!

If you feel your circumstances warrant Que jumping, then why not email/contact RideLondon and ask for your start time/s to be changed rather than ask on here?
Even if you do not give a fark about your morals it would at least mean you have less hassle on the day if it can be sorted.

    From the horse's mouth:

Please note that due to the complexity of more than 25,000 riders departing Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park in a three-hour period, you cannot change your start colour or start time. If you wish to meet another participant who is starting at a different time, you will be able to meet them on or beyond The Highway by pulling to one side of the road in a safe place and waiting.

    RTFM!

Just to lighten the mood a little I thought I would share my budget build The Pride of Wiltshire for the London 100.
It was built from parts in my garage then I spent £100 on some new wheels, cassette, chain and tyres. I have no idea what I am doing and only started road riding a couple of months ago, but dont worry you Alberto Contador wannabes I have a 8:18 start time so wont be troubling the lead pelaton too much.
Its going to be great fun and cant wait.

Getting to the start from central London:

Guys/Gals - ignore everything I have previously said! The route through central London does NOT follow the Victoria Embankment as it has in previous years!

From the Tower, this year's route heads along Eastcheap, Cannon Street, up New Change (at the back of St Paul's), Newgate Street, Fetter Lane, Fleet Street, the Strand, Trafalgar Square and back onto last year's route on Pall Mall.

Getting across the route/closed roads needs a rethink .....
