    6:03 for me Wave A.

That'll do. I'll be sick by Hampton.

I know a few people who put down the same as me (4.10-4.19) and they've all been given times between 6am and 6.12. I called RL100 and they told me that the waves were not chronological and assured me that 7.12 was a wave for that predicted time. If there is a peloton of people heading out at that pace after 25 waves, the possibility for crashes worries me given the number of cyclists on the road by then (thousands) since it only takes the odd slower, stray cyclist.
There must be a lot of optimistic cyclists then, with an anticipated average speed of 23 to 24 mph or cat. 4&5 racing speeds where the distance is not that long!

Interestingly I also received the same starting time (7.12). I did 4.40 in 2013, and put down 4.20-4.29 for this year. It looks like it may be carnage as I know of a few people starting before us who put down 6+ hrs. One of my mates who put 4.15 got a starting time of 8.55. So it appears fairly random!

Why would it be carnage? Dont understand, as the roads are closed it is big enough to take all speeds and faster cyclists go on the right. Officially it is not a race.

Are you the kind of person who sits in the middle lane at 70 mph because that's the official speed limit so no one should be overtaking you, even if the left lane is free?

In 2013 I did a 4.44 time and also put down a 4.20-4.29 time for this year and have been given a Wave A time of 6am.

It would appear I'm in the 6:00am slot with 7 other club mates, this gonna be fun. 8)

Well Richmond Park is a massive bottle neck and someone did go down last year causing big hold ups.

Its not a race but they should really run it as a Gran Fondo; separate the more competitive from the fun riders.

Because the roads are closed, and some riders may think that standard road rules do not apply to them (i.e. slower riders won't necessarily stick to the left, after all why should they?).

It is not a race, but I do believe that they should let faster riders off first (some will be, others will not). It is not only the estimated time that they should look at, but also previous efforts on ride london or other gran fondos. I highly doubt that over a third of riders estimated 4hr20m or rode the course in less than 5 hrs in 2013.

Because when I did it in 2013 people were riding 6 abreast having chats. I came down off Leith to be confronted by some mates having a chat with literally just enough room to squeeze past on the left with others screaming at them and slamming on their brakes.

Whilst you make the point about passing on the right and keeping left, others may think its a day where they can spend were they want on the tarmac and be completely oblivious to those around them.

I wonder if the previous times criteria has been skewed a bit by the event being shortened last year - If i remember correctly the question on the form if you had done the event previously and what your best time was. It didnt ask what year this time was for so there might be alot of riders showing up as 30 minutes faster than they would otherwise be.

Am I the only rubbish cyclist doing it this year? Everyone on this thread seems to be saying they are aiming to do it in less than 4 hours.. I think I am aiming just to complete it!

Re lack of communication, I have a charity place and had to ask the charity to chase for me. I still don't have any information about collecting a 'rider pack', which I read on this thread you do on the Saturday of the ride weekend. Going to the excel to collect it seems bit OTT really, would have thought they could post it out but hey ho.

Best of British to all riding, if you see someone in a Jamie Oliver jersey give him a push along cos it'll be me! :)

Nothing wrong with that, I want to gt round and enjoy the route and the day out. My time was 6 hours both times and I suspect I will be the same this time too.

Enjoy yourself, don't push too hard and then go from there.

Working in IT I don't think this will be sent out in surname, e-mail or pen order. I suspect it will be based on the order people registered in the database

I hadn't heard so emailed the help desk and they sent me the details - though still not had the official email

Did 4hrs 16 in 2013 and put down 4.20 this time (I am getting on a bit), so pleased with a 6.03 start (despite the early rise). Not sure though if the time allow isn't rand one to a degree. My mate put the same time as me but got 7.0 something - though he hasn't got a track record doing this event

Finally the email arrived, 6:00am Wave A; assume that means 100 miles of completely open road awaits :D
  • Got mine. 6:27 start. Well happy with that. Wanted a reasonably clear course, which 6:27 start will achieve but also get 1/2 hour extra in bed vs the 6:00 racing snakes!

    BTW - I put 5:10 - 5:20 on my form, based on 5:21 in 2013

Question from a first timer. I'm staying close to the start and debating how best to get back there from the finish.
Anyone here used the Bike Transport Service? I if so what do you think? In particular what is the protection for the bikes like? I don't want my Italian thoroughbred getting damaged?
I guess my only alternative is to ride back to East London. Thanks

My email arrived at about 4pm today, the charity I am raising money for actually contacted me earlier in the day to let me know there were problems issuing the details but that the event organisers were working through it.

Got a start time of 6am, wave A, Blue. When I registered I was confident of doing it in about 4 hrs 45 mins, but had my training ruined with a knee problem so am realistically looking at 5 hrs 30 or so now. Am at least pleased that the early time should mean clearer roads rather than getting a really late time and be picking my way through thousands of riders for 100 miles.

Really looking forward to it now, still gotta get more mileage into the legs beforehand.

I've done the same as I'm staying a mile from the start. Just assuming/hoping that the transport back to QEOP is secure and there won't be any damage. Also hope they are flexible on times as I don't know how long I am likely to take as it's my first time too.

    Orange h 7.15

I did it last year. Stayed about 10 miles from the start, 3 from the finish. Rode there and back. It's flat. Nothing to it.

Actually I've now looked at map and realise it's only about 7.5 miles back so I think I'll take my chances with London traffic to avoid the hassle factor. Goodness knows, there looks as there'll be quite enough of that anyway. Done lots of bite events in my time but the logistics of this seem really quite daunting. Hope it's all worth it for what is a rather flat route!

Got my email today and the magazine, I have pink wave F and a start time of 8:15am I think I put down 7hrs as I've not done 100 before, would have liked a slightly earlier start time as I can see it being quite sticky in places but never mind, it is what it is ? Still have no idea how I'm going to get there yet ?

I'm one of the last starters - Pink Wave G starting at 8:45

I'll let you know if I manage to find any space to get a reasonable (for me) pace.

As a later starter in previous years, I found it a little disconcerting to see, at Kingston, the early starting hot-shoes on their homeward leg as I was heading out towards the Surrey hills.

    This year I have a 6.24hrs start. I'll give you a wave!

Yes, I was fortunate enough to be one of the hotshoes last year and as I was coming back through Kingston, wetter than I've ever been on a bike my only thoughts for those going the other way with 50 miles still to go and sopping wet was "You poor, poor bastards".

Are there likely to be queues for toilets during the ride and are there marshals to look after your bike while you 'go', or is it done on a trust basis?

There were a few queues at the start in 2013 but I think that they had more Tardis toilets last year. In the start area, I took off my Garmin when I went for a pre-start pee, but felt that, as the whole area is access controlled, my bike had to be safe enough.

Once out on the ride, your bike is a bit more at risk if you leave it unattended, but I've not heard of any bikes being stolen.
