Looks bad for Štybar. Think he went right over and hit is head after running into the feet of the barriers. All the result of a compression in the field on the LHS following an earlier coming together between Apollonio and someone slowing down from the Giant train. Did not see who that was though.

Edit - Van Rensburgh was the Giant guy. Porsev took a heavy fall there as well. Into the barriers on the RHS but looks like he landed on his backside.

There's a silver lining in every cloud. I didn't have Stybar but was planning to put him in tonight.

Seriously though, I hope he is ok.
  • Brutal crash for "Styby" but inrng says it's just damaged teeth, no broken bones.

When you cartwheel like that the point of impact is often the face on tarmac - horrible way to crash - no broken bones is good and hopefully no serious head injury - didn't look knocked out so with luck it'll just be cosmetic.

Check out the skillz from Mollema (following Boom on the LHS of the picture) - rear wheel drift in both directions and gets clobbered by Porsev's bike. Boom holds the bike well riding over the barrier feet:

Cannondale rider on the other side does well too.

Should have two lovely Black Eyes by the weekend.
    I did. :(
Funny how the crash hat didn't help on a face job. ?

It helped the Cannondale rider that his bike landed on though.

Horrific and amazing at the same time. I had to replay it several times to watch Mollemas skills.
  • Just off to take up station on the Muur.

Weather report: It's carking it down.

Just under 30km to go. Weather horrible. Belkin as expected doing all the work in the main group chasing the leaders who are 2' up the road.

Lead group - Debusschere, Trentin & Lastras.

Trentin attacks from the front on the Muur... and now Boom and Gilbert from the main field.

That has now formed a chasing group of 4 riders - Boom, Gilbert, Keukeleire and Quinzato.

Trentin and Lastras still in the lead. Those 4 chasers have been caught by others inc G and GvA. Boom still looks good but could do with teammates.

Few more including G have bridged across to the chasing group - Cancellara amongst those who haven't.

    ZDENEK STYBAR MEDICAL UPDATE
    FRIDAY 15 AUGUST 2014 - 16:03

"OPQS communicates that the condition of Zdenek Stybar is improving. Stybar underwent reconstructive surgery on wounds in the area of his mouth last night. The surgery went well, and was performed by Professor Gerd Fabré.

Surgery included both internal and external stitches. Medical staff also replaced three teeth that Stybar lost in the impact with the ground. Due to difficulty eating and drinking as a consequence of both the crash and the operation, the Czech champion will remain in the hospital today under observation of hospital staff. OPQS thanks Professor Fabré and his staff for their professionalism and care of Stybar."

Stalemate in today's stage as two leaders have around a minute on the main GC guys. 9km to go. It would suit Belkin for them to stay out there for the win.
