Interesting setting for tomorrow. A few in with a shout of the leader's jersey after the TT inc Boom, Terpstra, Gilbert, Dumoulin, Quinziato, possibly even Cancellara, Thomas or Dowsett. It's a great time to have the ITT.

    Good race faces
  • That was rock hard - I enjoyed that.

Love the way Gilbert gets some proper race miles in to get back up to speed . No hiding in the bunch for him!

Thanks. Good to see Boonen make the cut in his first race in a while.

Geraint was a couple groups back.

    Quintana's brother is racing!

  • Very impressed with Dumoulin. When I saw his team I though fair enough, but the way he rode over (admittedly mild) cobbles was immense
  • The TT today has the potential to be the weakest stage of the race.

I shall miss it to ride a TT myself. I suspect the club 10 might be a bit less intense than this one.

I see from Twitter that Simon "The beard to be feared" Geschke reckons he is going to catch team mate Roy Curvers.

That should be worth a look.

Cancellara smashes previous fastest times by Jesse Sergent, Cummings, Moser and Dennis. 13 seconds in 10 km, that's a significant gap. Still more than 100 riders to finish

Very fast non-technical parcours. Start and finish at exactly the same location, don't see that very often in a TT. Good for spectators

Plus 19" for Lars Boom might put him into the overall lead.

Boom new leader, Dumoulin and Quinziato (I think at) at 4 seconds.

Dumoulin seriously impressive three days in a row.

Stage 1 almost successfully keeps the bunch off against a headwind in a late attack
Stage 2 closes a gap of a minute in full finale after a puncture
Stage 3 beats Cancellara to win the TT

And still only 23 years old

Good ride by Dumoulin, given the effort he and the team had to put in yesterday.

Reasonable place to have the prologue style TT, with plenty of big names still having a chance of the overall - the anticipated OPQS & Belkin folks along with the likes of G, Cancellara and Gilbert.

Final flat stage tomorrow and then the business end. It's set up nicely for the cobbled classics riders to try and take enough time out of the Ardennes classics riders like Gilbert.

Unlucky. I can't believe they gave you 300/1.
  • No word of a lie, the first thing I thought when I saw the result was "Ooh, Joelsim's just missed out"

That's bookies for you. place good odds for the suckers to put money on.
Never seen a hard up bookie or gambling casino.

Did you see a TV program a few years ago where the investigative camera showed a (Ladbrokes, I think or William Hill) guy in the car park with loads of readies.
He had info on the betting before the start and gave his runners the cash to place bets with "on course bookies" to manipulate the odds at the "OFF"
This meant that the millions of pounds laid out around the country in betting shops could only p.ay the reduced odds that the tick tack men had spread around the course to give the published starting prices.

Ah, but you also get a select few people who can make money out of gambling. And they identify when the bookies have got it wrong. They don't always win, but in the long run they do. And a 300/1 shot who comes fourth is definitely an example of the bookies getting it wrong.

But that's not the point. The key to successful gambling is not picking the winner, because you won't always pick the winner, but selecting good value bets so that in the long run the margins run in your favour not the bookies'.

Exactly. It's like if someone gave me 10/1 that I could roll a 5 and I ended up rolling a 4. Even though I lost it was still the right move because in the long run I will make money.

Dumoulin is the real deal. When Tony Martin drops off his TT perch Tom is going to be really hard to beat. Consistently top performer. Lovely kit her has too:

It wasn't up for long. PP were the first to offer odds and I thought it looked like a value bet at 300/1. Then as soon as the other bookies put their prices up PP came down very quickly and then suspended on him for a while.

Having said that, they are now £5 better off.

    Stage 4 » Koksijde › Ardooie (183.3k)

Long day for Frederik Veuchelen from Wanty, after 50km he is on his own up front. Can't find a decent map or profile I'm afraid.

(PTP carnage today btw as Andre Griepel has abandoned)
