I think Contador will ride for the GC at the Vuelta, whatever he says I don't think he'll be able to resist giving it a go.
I don't think he'll deliberately lose time (like Majka in the Tour), but he may not have a choice. It will be in the best interests of others to go hard in the early stages to make sure.

That doesn't really narrow it down for us.

    agree

Stage 6 is the first tricky one so he still has 2 weeks to get some sort of form. If he can stay with the leaders for a couple of medium mountain/flat stages he may well see how he goes. As said it's a no lose situation for him. tbh I can't see him living with Quintana and Froome, look at Purito in the Tour, way off pace and no staying power.

A weak team with little chance of anything decent except for a top 5 in the sprints if they are lucky.

Yeah, although VDB may be happy to try for GC placing.

Forgot Uran was racing as he has not been mentioned.

Top 15 for VdB, no more I reckon.
  • VDB should lose time in the first week, will leave him free to take a mountain stage, like Barguil did last year

Still a huge talent though. First black Grand Tour winner is my prediction.

Hoping for a nice showing from him and Louis. Both are brave riders and climb like demons. I hope Tekle does well but then I always do and am often disappointed - done more or less ok but lost a packet on the hardest stage in V Burgos.

Anyone reckon the younger riders in MTN will be pulled by management after roughly 2nd rest day like Yates was. I really hope not.

I think the Vuelta is a step below the Tour in terms of intensity, so less risk of irreparable damage to a young rider if they see the race through to the end.

I think if Simon Yates was making his GT debut in the Vuelta, OGE would let him ride to the end. As I imagine they'll do with Adam Yates.

Henao jr seemed to make it through the Giro OK at the age of 20. And Kudus has more experience than him. He'll be fine. He can always take it easy in the autobus any time he pleases.

  • The fact that neither Meintjes nor Kudus have ridden since June could go against them. Plus I don't think Kudus is good enough to win in the WT yet... although still should have a solid race.

But being the African team, I think they'll ride for Pardilla and Ciolek.

Maybe a better team than their Tour team if you ask me.
