Punctured a lung with a broken rib if I heard that correctly? Ouch. That hurts.

Yup. Then ride on and finished the stage because the ambulances were all up ahead. Gotta hurt, that.

    Quote from the Guardian...

If stage 17 was a film character it'd be Joe Pesci in Goodfellas.

    Seems pretty apt.

    Two non starters
Besides Simon Gerrans, Reto Hollenstein (IAM) is also a non starter in St-Gaudens. He crashed yesterday in the first kilometre of racing but courageously finished despite a pneumothorax.

The report I read said he rode 60km alone until he caught the gruppetto and then the next 140km before finishing in tears with the gruppetto. That must have been a deliberate decision and not because it was the only way for him to get medical attention. The guy must be hard as nails though.

I was thinking about this when I saw a rerun of Scarponi's crash on the rest day. Presumably it wasn't that bad as he got back up to the yellow jersey group and did a job for Nibali afterwards, but if I had a crash like that there's no way I'd be leaping back on my bike, these guys are so tough.

Not just 'finished the stage' - he crashed within the first km, so effectively rode the whole stage with a punctured lung.

The Peanut is all in white today.

I only just got this. Disappointing. Blue/white would be a nice mix I reckon.

    Funny how?
You might have had a response from a pro cyclist on Twitter, you may even have chatted to a 'journo', but ultimately, you still know nothing. You're not an insider, no matter how much you wish you are.

Seems like a lot of work in vain for Katusha. Hope purito's had 3 weetabix today.
