Oooh - bad timing for the competition bike! Horner still on Nibs wheel

What are the odds of Horner getting on the podium? Worth a punt?

300/1 to win, so 1/4 of that for 2nd or 3rd.

Astana don't need to do anything on this stage. They have no jerseys and Nibali is best placed of the remaining GT contenders. Astana achieved one of their goals with no effort expended so just need to re-group and re-assess over the rest day.

Ok, they obviously think otherwise as they are pushing on now.
They want to reduce the number of challengers. The fewer that provide a threat, the fewer they have to chase if they attack.

Did the NBC guy appear on ITV4 too?

Not a good time for ITV to being away a free Tarmac as a prize....

If they get two winners at least it will be easy to split the prize.

Agreed, the group is a bit too big.

Love the ITV prize. A specialized bike. I wonder if entries will be down after todays stage?

Bikes crash when you fall though, don't they.

Strange thing to say but I have to give credit to Sean Kelly for his commentary when Bertie got in the car. He was much better than the so called lead commentators, Carlton and P&P

Did he not quit a bit easily there?
    Any injury reports?

For those not obsessed with Froome or Contador this is starting to look like real entertainment.

Pretty obvious statement. Carltons like a hyperactive 8 year old that’s been dosed up on amphetamines and blue smarties. P+P are dull as dishwater.

Did Kelly mention that Contador had made any form of “calculation”?

Bikes crash when you fall though, don't they.

That sounds way more likely than it randomly snapping underneath him (unless it was a Stem or steerer or something...)

Given how Astana have pulled back OPQS it does seem like they were riding tempo rather than attacking Bertie too

Think you may have called that well today Thom...

.@tinkoff_saxo saying that Contador hit something on descent and crashed......Bike was not the cause of the crash.

We'll hear what happened later, I'm surprised we haven't already.

Edit: Spoke too early :) ...was on a descent too? it wasn't made out like that in the earlier commentary.

Like everything else in cycling, King Kelly's been there and done it. Popped collar bone in 1987.

Pic of Contador and bike when he crashed: Contador_2974492a.jpg

Doesn't look like it snapped in two like many saying. And the chain is also in place.

Good photo that, didn't look like much sunlight when it happened.

That was my understanding also. Or was it Roche? Actually it was Roche looking above.

Our club run would leader would be furious to see it parked drive-side down. He'll get grass in the chain...

I saw them collect his bike after he fell and after they had given him a new one). It was a McLaren.

I'm not even sure where the 'snapped frame' come from and why it's suddenly THE explanation. It might be, but surely the frame split in to two bits because the actual crash is the most likely cause.

The commentator here were on about and takling nonsense hinting doping ("we can't say whether or not.. but we can only give the riders the benefit of the doubt"..) on Tony's riding. Not once has Martin gained more than the 4:30 or so and the first time the pelton actually gave it a go they made 2 minutes on him. There's nothing 'out of the ordinary' from Tony here (he's a beast, obviously, but we all knew that).

    Annoying.

This race may as well be the Tour down Under without Froome and Contador.
