This is possibly the most exciting part of the stage.

Where are you watching it? ITV4 coverage doesn't start for another 2 hours.

Not watching, just various tickers and twitters.

Eurosport should be live in 30 minutes or so though.

Except for the 26 off the back ( Cheng is there). All to come together on the decent.

As I'm writing Tony Martin goes away.......

Fresh from ThomThom's man Lars Bak:

Grupetto will need to be careful today, the stage isn't categorised as a mountain stage and the cut-off is set at 18%.

I read those gaps as hours, minutes and seconds at first, but the only way that can be is if Cheng has thought 'sod this' and is currently putting his feet up in a cafe near the start with a glass of cognac and a crafty Gauloise.

Well it is, and he's not even LR any more (Ted King 7 sec back).

The grupetto is already 2 mins back. A regroup on the decent is looking less likely, especially since there is no valley road, it's straight up again.

Ah, reality dawns - they're not timings on the road but their overall timing on GC this morning, aren't they? Please tell me this is true - I think I'm having a bit of a Jonathan Pearce moment.

I DNS'd, indulging in a moment of Cheng with the fecund morning photons. Bakelants will win this now, although I was encouraged to see he squandered an effort in the early break.

    Evening All,

Just dropping in briefly before watching Duck Quacks Don't Echo with Junior.
Happy to see Stefano wearing some more interesting trousers, less happy to see Cheng off the back already.

I work in an area of Hong Kong called Kowloon. The literal translation of this is, "Nine Dragons", and I fear the dragon's back profile of today's stage might mean Cheng gets burned...

    See you all later!

I agree with LeMond that Flecha is better!

Col de la Schlucht is a nice climb...

Cheng keeping Marcel Kittel company in the bus so they will have plenty of time to bond!

Five riders including Navarro and Rolland have a minute on the peloton. Then Martin and De Marchi have almost 2.

    Kadri getting back on.

Two at front as described, 8 or so at 40mins including the riders I mentioned and Edet. VanAv, Spilak, Mont something, Machado and a Europcar rider.

Chava, JRod, Cancellara and quite a few others are behind them but there is little cohesion.

Rolland only 7 mins down. Could complicate things. Can't want to give him 3 or 4 minutes back.

Machado is higher on GC than him so that gives two slight dangers.

There's something missing from this thread...

Today's stage does, of course, head through fine cheese country.

About Munster: Munster from Alsace is not the same cheese most Americans are familiar with. This cheese comes exclusively from an area spreading between the East of the Vosges in Alsace and the West of Lorraine (where the cheese is called Géromé). Back in the seventh century Irish monks settled in what is now called Munster Valley in Alsace. They created "Munster Kaes", their goal being to preserve milk and feed their people.

Munster making: Farmers still use the traditional way to make Munster. The cheese is rubbed by hand with a solution of rock, salt and water. This will help the growth of bacteria giving a strong flavor to the cheese and preventing mold to developing. Maturation of farm Munsters initially takes place outside for one week. Munsters are then transferred into caves next to old Munsters. Every other day the Munsters are washed and brushed.

Tasting Munster: Munster has a strong and powerful aroma.

Tasting advice: In Alsace Lorraine, Munster is often eaten with baked potatoes and finely chopped onions.

Munster and wine: With a beer! Or wines such as Alsace's Gewürztraminer or Pinot Noir, but also full bodied red wines such as Côte-Rotie or Chateauneuf-du-Pape (French Wine Guide)
