Most of these people are drivers. For some of them it will be the first time they've connected the idea of a cyclist with a human being, never mind a sports idol. Add in the TV audience and these scenes are fantastic for anyone riding a bike on UK roads.

Looks like 10x the population of some of these villages by the roadside.

And this stage could really do with some Millar analysis of the on-bike footage.

I'm sat at the kilometre to go banner. The cruel side of me half wants a crash at this corner as it really is the only action likely to happen at this point.

Just after the banner there are two right turns before the final straight so all the sprint teams will want to be on the front at the banner.

Bakelants getting his chance to ride for himself. (According to Cycling Podcast he was the happiest man in the world to be liberated from the Cav train.)

98km to go and gap is 3'26" for Barta (TNE) and Bideau (BSE).
  • Cheng Ji has to have spent most miles on the front of any rider cumulatively over the last three days...

I was on the MTR (train) today and the TV was showing highlights of yesterday's stage. This is the first year I have seen it. Maybe the Ji Cheng effect, but great to see the coverage. Yorkshire looked lovely....

I just noticed I wrote above 'their in Essex' if it hadn't been a deliberate test for the spelling police (which they failed) I'd be hanging my head in shame!

I did notice, and I am a member of the spelling police.

However, I am currently on annual leave....

Publicity caravan was pretty rubbish over here. Lots of people but a comfortable amount.

Contador banner primed. Just need to find out how to show it to Contador, Froome then the camera.
