No Tri-Bars as well which is odd?

Also no cutout on the seat tube for an aero wheel?

They don't use tri bars in elite triathlon... They race like normal bike riders (almost... except for the tri-suits). The AiR 9.8 is an aero road bike not a TT or tri bike.

You do occasionally see short stubby draft legal clip on tri bars at elite triathlon.

Guess it depends on whether they're a crap swimmer (need to catch up with the bunch) or a crap runner (want to break free of the bunch to get a head start on the run) as to whether someone decides to use them!

    Ah. Didn't know that.

Even as an aero road bike, you would maybe think it'd have the cutout.

Also funny hood shape...hydraulic brakes? Look to be below BB or hidden in forks

Not hydro brakes, you can see the brake cable in the 2nd pic.

The brothers are super stronger cyclists - it'd be interesting to see them in pro ranks. Ali especially is an insanely good runner who can usually blow away the whole field.

Apparently Alis 2012 Olympic 10K (from the triathlon)would have got him 8th in the medal final. I was talking to a friend about this last night - he went for the 10k tryouts but came nowhere?

Yep, he's not quite at the very top level... but
    a) what could he do if he only trained for running
    b) he'd destroy the 10k boys if they had to swim/cycle first!

My comments weren't about the Brownlees being dodgy swimmers or runners, it was about those that need to use draft legal tri bars. I can't remember ever seeing either of them using tri bars.

As for Ali's running. I think he decided not to try to qualify for the 10k because of his injury problems. I understand they are caused by his running. But to give an idea...

2009 - represented GB at the European Cross Country Champs.
2013 - ranked 3rd in the UK at 10k. (no.1 was Mo Farah)

I always stand by my comment that doing triathlons means you are just 'average' at 3 proper sports. (often gets me into debates/arguments though.)

Just proves the point that naturally talented athletes can dominate in a sport where no discipline is at a really high standard. :D

Apart from the fact that the sport is triathlon, not swimming then cycling then running. The key is being able to do the disciplines in sequence not individually. These guys are the best in the business.

As much as it's fun to take the piss out of triathletes (My best mate is one and I do all the time) these boys would give a lot of us a good kicking out on the bike.

It depends on the course and the rider whether they use the stubby tri bars. This particular type of tri scares the heck out of me seeing them all in a bunch, lethal!

These sorts of things are the most ridiculous. Add a logo costing nothing and double the price of the item. Muppet to buy something like that.

    For sure.

But, in my (not so) limited experience, they are twice as likely to crash.

They get fast quick without huge amounts of hours on the road.

Let me put it this way, if you're running a club run and you get a couple of Tri guys - stick 'em on the front and let everyone know behind to take the corners a bit more slowly - then everyone wins ;).

Alistair Brownlee looks like the kind of athlete who would be world class at cycling or running if he chose to specialise. Swimming is a different matter as to dominate there you really need a particular freakish body type.
You only need two tools: WD40 and Duck Tape.
If it doesn't move and should, use the WD40.
If it shouldn't move and does, use the tape.
