Tour 2014 Team Presentation

There is always a gulf between live action with the atmosphere and everything else and watching it live on TV I suppose. The feeling in the Arena was really good - people were excited and the cheers for Cav/Sky/Gary Verity were huge.0

The atmosphere inside and outside was fantastic. We stayed outside as long as possible. There were huge crowds watching the teams riding through the city from the University to the Arena.
We arrived just as the proper presentations started and just got the show, no breaks, no cuts to Greg Lemond or anything like that.
I thought the two presenters did pretty well. I did enjoy Tony Martin just having no idea what to say and I thought Peter Sagan was suitably bonkers (The hair! Tha hair!). I did worry for Jill at that point, but I think he kept his hands firmly on the handle bars.
Biggest cheer of the night I think was for Cav, though Team Sky as a whole got a huge cheer and Froome did pretty well too. Simon Yates got quite a reception too. (Wiggo got a bit of a cheer too when he was mentioned)
There were some shouts from the back as well for Millar when Garmin Sharp appeared but I doubt that will have been heard on TV.
So I thought it was pretty good. I enjoyed all the little "Welcome to Yorkshire" vignettes.
I suspect that the TV experience was completely different.
We ducked out when the music started and managed to add Chris Froome to my ever increasing Stalker list.
Completely agree with this.
I was there too and it was a great show with a great atmosphere. Sadly, the TV editing was utterly rubbish (I watched it today with my daughter). They cut out all the best bits, including the 'Welcome to Yorkshire' snippets, Prudhommes speech, most of Verity's speech, the intro montage, the awesome british riders montage and even the Embrace finale which was actually quite good. I'm guessing it was a rush job as it was delayed live, but believe me, the TV show was nothing like the live event. They also made it sound very quiet, when in fact my ears were ringing when I came out!0 -
Caught some of this this morning! I respect Greg Lemond hugely but he shouldn't be anywhere near a mic and TV camera, I was embarrassed watching him. He has that same interview technique as Charlie Stayt where he starts asking a question then re-phrases it over and over again without quite finishing.0

Where he's going wrong is appearing on TV, sorting it out should be easy
Was surprised by Jill Douglas, she's usually not too bad.0 -

As for Jill Douglas, she's not really a natural for that sort of gig. She's a 'to camera' presenter and interviewer. It needed more of an 'event' presenter (not sure who though)Twitter: @RichN950 -

Better to get rid of him, the BBC apparently coached Phil Neville before the world cup and he was absolutely bloody awful. Greg is just another one of those dull personalities with no real life to him. I can imagine the pair of them off to let their hair down at a Chris Rea gig when their summer work is done and then hanging backstage enjoying a weak glass of squash each.0 -
Glad the consensus seems to be that the presentation was better in the flesh than on TV, if only for those who were there (the TV broadcast lived down to my expectations, if I'm honest). Not surprised to hear that the atmosphere was different in the arena either - given the number of times the wrong mic was opened up I don't have much confidence in the ability of the sound crew to capture the sound of an audience.0
