OK so I'll have to go hunting for some cows now will I...

Who's doing horses? No tA Doc should be on horse duty no?

Sorry, but cheese and beer are closer to my specialist topics. Horses are basically just large animals with teeth like Suarez that seem to be a bit psychotic at times and make me nervous. They're nice to look at from a distance though.

I could probably find a picture of a pit pony for tomorrows stage (having now read DD's geology primer).

Does Yorkshire have any special horses?

Everything in Yorkshire is special!

Cleveland Bays come from Yorkshire as did the now extinct Yorkshire Coach Horse.

    I'll find a pic later.

Thanks, I feel a huge burden has been lifted from my shoulders. While I'm not usually averse to posting rubbish about things I know sod all about I try and avoid it when a genuinely knowledgeable poster is about, and at all costs in one of the sacred TdF Spoiler Thread Required Information categories.

    50 minute neutral zone.

    That's a bit much, isn't it?

I have asked Mrs TMR to go get the groceries, so I can stay home and watch it. We're supposed to be going to the O2 tonight to watch Monty Python, so it's going to be a long one! :)

My auntie and uncle live in Yorkshire (in Haworth which the race goes through tomorrow). All I can say is that the the people of Yorkshire and the media couldn't have got behind the Grand Depart more than they have done.

I just hope that the next few days are remembered for the cycling and the scenery rather than a bad crash or incident.

They do seem to have made a massive effort - that's brilliant! I love how much support there is for Pro Cycling in the UK now #proud

    TdF Cheese:

Wensleydale is an obvious choice, but can I put in a word for Swaledale?
Again, produced just a stones throw from the route (Richmond), from the milk of cows and Swaledale sheep that they'll likely be cycling past.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Swaledale_cheese

So if you see one of these you may actually be watching the first stage of a TdF matured cheese being produced.

Currently watching a bunch of French guys, Petula Clark and Prudhomme talking French in the middle of Leeds! :D

Froome looks uber serious. No smiles or waves to the crowds. Cav and Contador looking cheerful.

Itv4 on an ad break already. Way to kill the excitement. These US and American channels are so commercial.

Thank God for ITV4 (words I never thought I'd say). LeMond on ES was painful viewing, it's like he isn't a natural English speaker and is having to constantly think about the next word to pass his lips. Huge crowds, looks like being an interesting stage as no-one seems to know if it's one for the top sprinters or a Degenkolb / Sagan / Kristoff type finish.

In every interview Kittel has been quite downbeat on his chances today. I can't work out whether he is just trying to deflect pressure away from himself or whether he is genuinely unsure if he can win today.

I get the feeling that Cav will be there for the sprint finish today, whatever it takes to get there.
