How much weight do you want to lose by the end of summer?

Yeah, they do just get easier. I try and pick hills on my after work rides that I just dig in for and give it all. Progress is a weird thing, it feels rubbish for a long them and then suddenly you realise it's much less painful than it used to be.
That said I do strangely enjoy hills, short steep ones or long ones or whatever, I used to avoid them but one day made a concerted effort to ride them even if they nearly killed me. I look forward to them in a weird way now.
I did a couple of normal time trials on my road bike too and that was a lot more painful than the hill climb TT haha.0 -

There's one near my usual route that I've avoided for a while that i will try Sunday morning!
Bout time I manned up!Still thinking of something clever to say!0 -
Yeah! You've come so far already. A few times up it you'll know what to expect and wondered why you avoided it so long!0
-
I'll let you know ... Hopefully I'm a little bit lighter than 15'6 right now (weigh in on Monday) ... That may help!Still thinking of something clever to say!0
-
Hah, get yourself up there! You'll be a lot less by now, going up hills made me a) loathe the weight b) rejoice at the lost weight and c) curse whatever strong flavoured food I had eaten at lunch that was now repeating on me.
Usually cutting out C helped with A & B!0 -
Well I've had the weekly weigh in and I'm down another 3lb ...
That's 19lb gone now
Oh and my average speed is up by 1.17mph ...Still thinking of something clever to say!0 -

Watch this space for my update next week.
5 weeks on I have lost 8lb. (3.6kg)
My target of 2 stone is still possible .
My biggest problem seems to be eating on long rides.Trying to lose weight, I cut down on eating rubbish/sugar etc but I still need to eat on longer rides. My head tells me not to eat, but my body needs it and I eat too much. I need to find a happy medium, just eat enough to keep going without overdoing it.....................................................................................................

What works for me is some type of cereal bar (currently have loads of Kellogs Raisin/Oat bars, 3 packs for £3, stockpile time!). After the first hour I eat half a bar every half hour. A mouthful of some High5 2:1 every 15 minutes. Sees me fine through anything so far, 105 miles being my longest ride. I did swap swap out some bars for home made rice and ham cake things I saw a recipe for, have used home made flapjacks too. I don't really bother with gels and the like. Keeps me topped up fine.0

I'm hoping another 1.5 stone by the end of summer. I started off in March, weighing just under 17 stone and 6'3 in height, but needing a knee operation due to a tear in my cartlidge and a very small amount of ligament damage. I bought a cheap Ammacco mountain bike and with doing weights in the gym, managed to get to 14 3/4 stone by June. I've been told by my GP to stay off my bike until I have a follow up appointment for my knee which is next month, but as my mountain bike was a bit too small for me (it was the last one in the sale and didn't want to spend much in case it was a short lived thing), I've just treated myself to a CX bike. This way I can still use bridleways and the mud tracks down by the river, but actually get some decent speed on the roads as well. Due to my job, I won't be back there before the end of August, but I'm hoping come October time I'll be hitting the 13.5 stone mark. After reading this thread, it is making me more motivated to do it knowing that I'm not the only one in the boat!0

Well that's another three pounds gone
I'm now down to 14'13 which I'm chuffed about .... The only problem is the upcoming two week holiday which may see me 1) Pop the question! 2) fall off the wagon a little ... I'm relaxed about both and can crack on with dieting when back.
I'm taking the bike but will obviously have to be mindful of my family commitments!Still thinking of something clever to say!0 -
15 stone now Want to get down to 13 stone by xmas. In here for inspiration0

There are quite a few of us in this particular boat lol ... Hopefully there will be less chance of the boat sinking if we all keep goingStill thinking of something clever to say!0 -
Aiming for 90kg (14st 2lb) by the end of september. I'm a 6ft2 ex rugby player (was 18st 2.5 years a go).
Started at 104kg (16st 7lb) in feb
Today's weigh in 93 kg (14st 10lb)
A little way to go but seems to be on track!0 -
Looks like we both want to end up at the same weight (14'2) ... I'm 6'2 also ... It's some weight we are hauling, especially up hill lolStill thinking of something clever to say!0

Off to a slow start on the bike sadly as went out for the first ride four weeks ago and couldn't believe how hard I cycling now become and just how unfit I had become. In fact it scared me for a few days!
That was four weeks ago, joined a gym on the 4th of July and now go 4 days a week.
Gone really strict on the dieting too and only allow myself 1400 calories during the day and only 400 calories after 5 pm.(My main meal used to be 2-3 am usually).
Current gym regime is 2 x 2km Rowing (both completed in 8 mins 30 each) and then a 10km session on the bike which I can do in a personal best of 15Mins 50 seconds.I then cool down with another 10 kg at a slightly easier pace.I am also using this training to set a high cadence for returning to the bike.
I am feeling so much better than 4 weeks ago and feel I now have a good base to get out on the bike and take things up a level which is my target for this week.
Aiming to lose 4 1/2 stone.
Thanks to all those above for helping with the motivation, its helping a lot.

Hit 79.5kg at the end of last week . Been at my parents all week not exercising though so expecting to be a bit over 80kg when I weigh in on Monday.
Working out how I can fit in the Strava Shimano Summer Challenge (600km between today and 10 August), that should lose me another kilo or so if I can find the time.0 -

As long as everyone keeps the bailing the water out the boat we should be fine! haha. Amazing how much extra motivation this thread has given me though!stoveman wrote:Off to a slow start on the bike sadly as went out for the first ride four weeks ago and couldn't believe how hard I cycling now become and just how unfit I had become. In fact it scared me for a few days!
I'm the same, I last rode a bike when I was 17 before passing my driving test, I'm 32 now and led a reasonably unactive life style. My first ride I manged less then a mile over fields and I was shattered!
Due to my knee, I decided to change the cleats I was using to the Shimano SH-56 ones that release when moving your foot in any direction to try and reduce the chance of falling off onto my knee. Had my first ride yesterday, and felt like I lost all that hard earned fitness before my operation. Hit another snag in that my front brake pads are now touching the disc making the pedaling really hard, so going to watch a few videos on youtube to try and fix the problem, it's the Avid BB5 brake if anyone knows much about them.0 -
66.5kg on the scales this morning. That's a loss of 3.5kg in the last 9 months. Might not sound like a lot, but at 5'10", I'm closing in on my limits.
BMI of 20.8. Another 3.5kg and i will officially be 'unhealthy', at 19.9 BMIs. (Just for fun, don't lecture me, i know BMI isn't a great measure).
If i get to 63kg and get my FTP to 252W (up 24W) i'll hit the magic 4W/kg. 8)All the above is just advice .. you can do whatever the f*ck you wana do!

Yep thats right we do have a few hills down here. Can't get more than half a mile from home without going upwards0 -
I've got ten mtrs of flat before it goes uphill !?!?!? After that I don't think I've seen flat till I've got back!
Got a week in Ivybridge next week ... That'll be as bad as Morwenstow this week I'm guessingStill thinking of something clever to say!0 -
My in-laws live near Ivybridge, it's proper grippy down there! Enjoy.
In other news I am now down to 14st 8 (92 kg) 2kg to go, then a new target I suppose!0 -
I'm down to 13st 10 so far, so thats a stone off in the last 6 weeks. Aiming for 13st dead by my birthday at the end of the month0

Result ... Well done!
As for Ivybridge .... I'm on the Lukesland estate and the lane out is very narrow with high hedges ... Saw a cyclist hurtle down there today as a couple of cars were coming the other way, not good!
But ... Once off the lane it looks reasonable. I'm probably going to get out for a tootle tomorrow, perhaps towards Totnes if that's not too much of a hilly killer lolStill thinking of something clever to say!0 -
The problem I reported in my last post turned out to be terminal. After taking my bike to a shop to be looked at (the warranty guy from Tredz used to work there, small world eh?), they spent the best part of an hour playing around with them, setting them up, various test rides, etc, and at the end of every test ride the calipers were out of alignment again and were starting to bind. Still waiting for Tredz to send out new calipers and discs to the shop (everytime I've ordered from them it takes them a few days to send stuff out). This was last Wednesday, so hopefully I'll have the bike back to or tomorrow. It's now been nearly 2 months that I've been off work, and put on half a stone in recent weeks, so my target has now gone up to 2 stone to lose.0

77.5kg today so that's another 2kg off, despite spending last week off the bike, pretty ecstatic. Have had to buy all new jeans and work trousers! Means I've now lost more than 10kg (~1.5 stone) in 2014
Still finding it easy to lose so will keep going, who knows I might even make it into the "healthy" BMI region soon...0 -
I lost 6 lb in 6 weeks of feeling hungry from when I woke up to when I went to bed. Last week rode from Bristol to Holyhead and did 4 -5 hours of riding every day. Weighed when I got back and had put on 5 lb in a week. Back to 72 kg (11st 4lb) and feeling hungry. Problem is in two weeks I'm off to Majorca for another week of riding loads and will probably come back another 5 lb heavier.0
-
You get used to being hungry... I've been eating 1200-1500 calories a day during the week most of the year (excepting holidays and when travelling for work - which is always a killer).
The last few weeks I've almost been eating like a normal person, which has been great! I even took part in the office bacon sandwich run on Friday morning without feeling too guilty. The rate of loss has gone down but I don't find myself getting so hungry all the time any more.0 -
I was 16st 7lbs at Easter time. I'm now 15st 8lbs. 13lbs lost. (6ft 4 tall).
Ideally I've still got another stone to go but don't want to compromise strength.
I'd changed a few things to help with weight loss.
1 - Changed diet, I used to eat huge bowl of shreddies for breakfast and six slices of bread for lunch. This has been replaced with large Porridge, and either pasta/cous cous mixed with either tuna/chicken for lunch.
2 - Became active - prior to this year I was a lazy bas&£rd. Joined a gym, got a personal trainer (pro-rugby league player so takes no prisoners). Also enjoy cardio to help with fitness aswell as strength training. Although weight loss for period is not superb my body fat % has dropped from about 27% to under 20%.
I know I could still get better. One thing I'm struggling to cut out of the beer. I'm sure there are lots in the same boat. I limit myself to a maximum of two drinking days per week but my problem is when I drink beer I want to eat crap. Pizza, Indian, snacks etc. If I cut that out I'd easily drop the other stone. I used to have lots more 'drinking days' so dropping to two is good for me.0
