I was nearly pushing 120Kg in 2011 and dropped to around 90Kg later that year where I've pretty much sat until April this year.

I would really like to get to to the 72 to 74Kg mark, so far this year my results are:
    Date 22/4/14 6/5/14 27/5/14 18/6/14

    Body Fat 21% 18.6% 18% 16%

    Waist 83 cm 79 cm 78.5 76 cm

    Weight 89 kg 84 kg 83 kg 78.5 kg

The path of my life is strewn with cowpats from the devil's own satanic herd.

August last year I was almost 18 stone. Today I am 12st 4. I'd like to get to 11 by winter.

    That's seriously impressive stuff.

How did you achieve that rate of success?

Thanks! Initially (August 2013) I was borderline (maybe properly?) obese, miserable and angry (putting strain on relationship) and longed for the days where I was fit and healthy and used to mountain bike regularly (about 8 years previous) so I purchased a mountain bike. I was super out of shape (8 years of wine, naughty food and long long days at a desk), went for a quick 7 mile ride and thought I was going to die. Something had to change, so after lots of research and reading I made some severe diet adjustments. I cut out all but 30g of carbs a day. Together with this I made an effort to cycle every day. I'd ride to work and then do that 7 mile loop back home again. It was on a 9speed 29er and initially the (little to me now) hill was in the lowest gear and was agony. In all the wind and rain of winter, my stupid 9 gears and my cheap lights but I knew it was the only way.

In an effort to speed up my fitness after a month or two I started doing kettlebell excersises, 3 times a week. So my little route every day and then 3 times a quick 30 minute kettlebell routine. Although quite sore I was feeling pretty good, in the beginning of all these sort of health kicks you notice rapid gains but I happy with my progress, my fitness was increasing, I was losing weight and the diet had become pretty easy. I was keeping my calorie intake high with fats from avocado and meats and fish and just lots of green veg. Nuts etc too. By Christmas I'd just dipped under the 14 stone mark, was happy! I'd done a couple of 35 mile rides on my bike, extended my after work loop to about 12 miles and had so much energy.

Middle of January I got a (crappy) road bike, started riding it outside at the start of February and I was hooked. I decided to increase my daily mileage again and quickly realised that low carb just wouldn't cut it any more, so started to sensibly bring in carbs at lunch time, something low in the evening etc. Upped my miles at the weekend. First 40, then 50 and then a 60!

Anyway, fast forward a few months, for the last 10 weeks I've averaged about 200 miles a week. Just recently bought a new bike that's 3 weeks old and done 700 odd miles. Completed a 90 mile solo ride then a couple of weeks later 105 mile solo ride (in 6.30 which I was pleased with, about 6,000ft elevation), regularly do 60/70 on the weekend. Just done my first club TT (8 miles in 21.50, nothing spectacular but I gave it a bash!) and my life is completely different! Couldn't be happier. Well, some carbon clinchers maybe but... It's one of those cliche cycling probably saved my life sort of deals. Haha.

That's fantastic! You started heavier than me and gone lighter than my target weight!

I've really no excuse now have I ...

    Well done :)

Been trying to lose weight through half hearted dieting, have dug my old Bianchi out of the garage and got it back to being roadworthy.(Hasn't been ridden for a few years)
Currently at 17st 6 and struggling to lose anymore so have signed upto a gym and start next Monday.Am also aiming to get out on the bike a hell of a lot more as I used to ride 30-40 miles a day 15 years ago.

Have promised myself a nice new roadbike if I can get to 13st, but being a Head Chef, dieting ain't easy.

Thanks! It wasn't fun all the time but if I can do it anyone can. This time last year I was a different person! Hell, almost two people hah. Still, more to lose but allowing myself a bit of slack at the moment (typed with a glass of Duvel next to me).

Been out on the bike five times this week though and have not fallen off the wagon food or drink wise ... So I'm hopeful I've made a good start. I'll share/reveal all on Monday!

Good point, but as there was only 10 days of spring left at the start of the thread it would have been a tall order lol.

    Week 3 update

    13 Stone 4lb (186lb)

Another 3lb weight loss and only 6lb to go :P

Will be good to get under 13 Stone.

Fell off the wagon somewhat this week, damage fairly limited! On the plus side I was able to fit into some 32" waist jeans and I can't remember if I have ever worn 32" as an adult. I had purchased some 38" ones in Feb 2013 as my normal 36" ones were a bit snug so definitely somewhat slimmer :)

My "end of summer" sort of arrives by 21st July, because next week is my annual targeted event of a week in the Alps with 5 buddies.

So I started off 2014 at approx. 11st 3lbs and am presently at 10st 2lbs. This is approx. 8lbs lighter than lasts years Alps trip so feeling reasonably happy with both the weight and form I am taking with me.

As with everyone else no tricks or secrets - just more exercise and better food.

32" waist ... Result! I am "normally" 36" waist also ... But ... I had also purchased a couple of pairs in 38" recently! I'd be made up if I got to and stayed at 34 tbf!!

I was 13st11lbs/88kg in January, got down to around 13st3lbs/84kg by May and had been stuck there for a while, I'd mostly done that by controlling my eating and avoiding midweek beers (where possible).

Last month I went from doing odd 50km rides at random intervals (maybe once or twice a month) to cycling about 650km and managed to hit 12st10lbs/81kg which I am really happy with. That's lighter than I have been since my first year of university (2006). I feel great and cycling just gets more fun every time.

If I can get to 12.5 stone (79.5kg) in the near term I will be really happy.

To put that in perspective I'm only 5'8" so I'll still be technically overweight at 12.5 stone according to my BMI. I'll look prety trim though so that's what counts :D

I'm currently hovering between 72-73kg (11.3-11.4 stone) but want to get back down to my proper race weight of 68kg (10.7stone) or less that I had in April ready for hill climbing season. University dissertation and exams had a big impact soon after uni TT champs were finished

I want to be able to see what damage in the hill climbs I can do if I put the effort in.

Grand job! Well done! It only gets easier too.

12.1 here now. In 4 weeks it'll be a year since I started this endeavour. This time last year I'd have gotten sweaty walking to the shops in this sunshine. Last weekend I got my first KOM on Strava, 3rd out of 12 in a hill climb and have managed to get my average speed on 30-40 mile rides up into the 17mph range on rolling routes (18/19 now and then on a still day).

    Hill climbs?!?!?

That's what I have found so hard. 16'8 was a lot to haul up a slope! 15'6 feels a little better already ... 14'2 will be heaven when I hit it! :)
