    Most likely I'm out.

Problem is if I take the car, I spend 2-3 hours in traffic split between going out and coming in (had it been earlier, I would have avoided the going out traffic, at least). If I take the train I have to walk miles and negotiate the stairs of Clapham Junction with SPD-SL cleats, which is not something I am overly keen to do. If I cycle there and back, that adds roughly 40 miles to the ride.
Either way it seems a lot of trouble

Where do you actually GO cycling then? Richmond park?

Gomshall Mill is more a full blown restaurant with a "menu" and sit down etc.

I do go south, but I normally plan a 50-60 miler that starts from home... admittedly nearly 40 miles are suburbia, but that's the reason why I've got a cross bike and I can cut through a few pieces of remaining woodland within the M25 to make it more interesting. Also, often I leave very early, so at least the way out is traffic free.
I find sticking to the roads very frustrating these days and round here

Here's my "all the surrey hills" ride, may be tweak this so we start halfway through in Dorking, or something.

Did I see you on embankment last night suffering into the headwind drlodge? Campag top per avatar and white rourke? I was on the grey condor with backpack and hemp shopping bag to the pannier. Passed you between CB and AB I think then again by BB as I think you went along the pavement/shared path?

Yes that was indeed me. That headwind was tough at times, fortunately I had some help from RP to Cobham as I got chatting to a couple of cyclists. One had a lovely green Bob Jackson 853 with silver 10 speed Campag, all new-retro looking.

Can't say I remember you, far too many cyclists! Would have noticed a Condor if I'd seen it, sorry

I sheltered behind you as you suffered into the headwind then passed a bit later and went NKR when I presume you went left through imperial wharf? I saw that bob Jackson at the lights by Aragon House on the corner of parsons green. Not even Il Principe keeps his bikes that pristine!

I was in navy blue Moots shorts, blue/yellow polo sport top with a blue backpack and hemp shopping back on a panier.

Ah, yes I went on the shared path at one point to dodge some lights, but it didn't work, then re-joined beghind the crowd. I too went NKR to Putney bridge but I expect you were in front of me at that point.

I'll look out for that hemp shopping bag in future!

Haha. Just seen a possible new bike come up for sale so may be returning TGOTB's condor if all goes well. It's a dark grey with pannier rack (only sometimes adorned with said shopping bag) and guards.

Cool, will have a look at this and adapt as necessary. There is a lovely little climb out of Peaslake and a decent along Juniper Hill that I would like to do though. The decent in particular is nice, espeically having gone up box hill with its thousands of cyclists!

The Peaslake climb is Radnor Road - yeh its nice, best going from Peaslake heading south but good the other way too. The better descent around Juniper Hill IMHO is carrying on the B2033 towards Leatherhead, but that doesn't take us anywhere we want to go. The other descent from Box Hill is the B2032 Pebble Hill Road, a real blast taking you south towards Dorking or you carry straight on towards Newdigate.

Nyaargh. Most likely won't make 13th now - got to ferry the kids to a sporting event they're doing (honestly, all they do is get in the way of my riding - selfish wee buggers  Let me know when you're next out that way though, I ride out that way all the time so would be good to meet up and share some routes etc.

    Enjoy

Pebble Hill Road is being re-surfaced apparently - expect road closure, even worse road surface and probably awful "surface dressing" May want to avoid it for a bit

That said, a mate went that way this morning & apparently absolutely no sign of any roadworks as yet......

Also the B2126 at Forest Green is closed for 6 weeks according to NT

    https://maps.google.co.uk/maps?q=forest ... m&t=m&z=15

[EDIT: not sure where the exact closure is some info is here http://www.theparrot.co.uk/images/Parrot%20Beer%20Expo%202014.pdf. Look like we can get down from Leith Hill via Tanhurst lane onto the B2126 in either direction.]

Will sit down and look at the maps etc tomorrow on the iMac as I can't do it at work as the screens are rubbish and IE is out of date!

A couple of us went that way yesterday, there is a big hole in the ground and fencing up across the whole road, but very easy to pass bikes over the top and walk around the side.

I hate to do this but I am going to have to cry off of Sunday. I am too tired and still have a cold. My commute tired me out with Balham Hill causing problems- I doubt I would get up Coldharbour Lane.

Boo. Double boo. You just need a dose of ruile #5 ;-)

Anyone else still up for a ride? I'm in Guildford and was planning on cycling over to Dorking for 10:30 so can still do that, or 10am. If not, guess I'll join the Charlotteville CC instead.

Did you go to the Guildford street rare last night?
I watched up until about 8.30 ish - some impressive riders out there.
Some of the kits were small. Love that Pedal Heaven one.
