Aru: I wonder what Joe Dombrowski thought of that?

20 seconds foot Uran from Quintana but gains on those closest to him. Overall a decent day for him but looks like he might struggle with the big stages to come. Is his lead enough? The mountain TT is possibly in his favour though.

I think given the riders he's distanced this has been a good stage for Uran. Yes he's lost some time but he still has minutes in hand to those he did.

Any idea why Neri Sottoli were drilling it to bring the break back? They lost everyone as soon as they hit the climb! Could only be a show for TV.

Quality stuff once the racing actually broke out.

Hell of a ride by Aru
Majka was there apparently. Couldn't see him.

Majka came in after Uran but before the Evans group.

    Terrific climb that.
Great win for Aru. Looked scary strong.
    Quintana looking better. Uran too.
It would be interesting to see where Rolland would be without all those early attacks.

I think the Giro is set up perfectly at the moment because Quintana seems to be getting his climbing legs back with every stage while Uran is doing well to limit his losses. So it really is building to a crescendo.

Imagine if Quintana needs 30 seconds going into the final stage to Monte Zoncolan. What a prospect that would be.

Great win by Fabio Aru but I get the feeling that he will slip up at some point in the final week.

My prediction is Evans won't make the podium.

I think it will be Uran, Aru, Quintana, Evans / Majka. So I agree.

Fabulous racing on the climb. Stunning win.

Quintana only needs another 8 MTFs at 20s per to overhaul Uran. That looked like best effort today and he was smoked comfortably by Aru. I don't think it's going to happen unless Uran falls apart too, and Rigo looks rock at the moment.

    Aru on the other hand....

    That was pretty good.

    quintana doesn't look convincing.

    Uran rode pretty smart.

Quintana looks like he's getting better day by day to me, so I'm not ready to say he's got too much to make up yet.

Agreed with Milton that Aru looked great today but is likely to slip up at some point in the last week.

Uran did a good job of just pushing his own pace once he got dropped, no need to blow yourself up.

I eat my own words on a big humble pie plate. Uran did really well. There was a lot of tired riders. Hansen and his shoes rocked it for a while. Lets see who recovers after the rest day. It's still wide open and pretty much uphill all week apart form Wed. Plenty of time for this race to get blown apart. Now Ryder has lost some time I hope he will go for a long one if he has some" good sensations"

I agree with that. Quintana looks a bit off. He doesn't look happy on his bike.

Yeh! I agree with iainf72 too.
I wonder if Quintana lacks a tactical sense.

I would've liked to have seen more of Majka on the climb, to judge whether he also played it smart.
And of Pozzovivo too, to see if it was his off-day.
Glad to see Pellizotti finshing well, and it seems Moreno has recovered from his bad first week.

I like Rolland's willingness to try something (again), surprised some here don't like him, don't feel he is any more a wheelsucker than most riders.

Not a chance of him finishing top 5 I would say. He's cooked.

So pleased for Aru - he has been a rider who has shown talent and continued to perform.

    Check this out:

Blazing, cant work out whether you are an Aru hater with your Dombrow references? I watched him at the Giro Bio - so what, Dombrow is nothing compared to Aru right now. That is what happens when you go to Sky. Long live flair.

Pross that bet on Aru should have been worth taking!!

Nice to see Duarte there - DS for Colombia said yesterday he was hoping to take his chance.

Would like to see Uran climbing better but he did a great job none the less.

Three Colombians in the top five of today's stage. Good to see.

Looking through the results it really is carnage. The time gaps opening up quickly and get significantly worse.

I'm sorta expecting Pozzo to lose a bunch of time next week on one stage.

Evans will be better after rest day - He's prone to having a bad period about now in grand Tours.

The race is benefiting from not having one team take control of the whole thing.

“Cadel is always there. It’s a mistake if people are forgetting about him,” Quinziato told VeloNews. “Cadel is in very good shape. The team is supporting him. I believe we will see a good Cadel in the final week.”

Re-watching the last 3km you really have to give Aru some respect for that ride - seasoned pros should watch that attack and learn. If you are going to do something give it your all, dont look back, and go again and again. Brilliant move. Great style on the bike too. I hope he has legs like that later this Giro - this win will give him confidence to go from further out again.

It doesn't look very safe, or much like a bus, more an old streetcar.
