Gone 13 bells and no thread-starter for a Giro MTF? Nice weather out there.

Really looking forward to this one MTF stage hunter's dream. Hopefully a handful duking it out at the end.

Not letting the break get too far away.

6 minutes ahead, with 85 to go.

From the “Giro 2014 Stage 8: Foligno - Montecopiolo MTF *spoilers*” thread but discussing today:

Is the break going to make it today Iain? There's a PTP tribute pick in it for you.
Depends I guess. If I was BMC, I'd want to unload the jersey for a while, so you need the right kind of break. But the other GC guys are going to want to let BMC work and knacker themselves out.
Reckon we might see some GC guys test it a bit more today.
    Duarte then. Got it. Cheers.
Isn’t the stage today the type where those teams who would like, and can still get, two irons in the fire, could try and get another rider better placed in the GC, e.g. Omega (Brambilla or Poels), or Ag2r (Dupont)?

Or perhaps, as before a rest day, a day when those who are a bit adrift, to try and get back on the wagon (like a goal just before half-time gets you back in the game), e.g. Monfort or Rabottini.
Or if too adrift, to try and go for a stage win (as compensation) before the stages become too 'hot' as then mainly between the main contenders, e.g. Hesjedal, Pellizotti, Santaromita, Moreno, someone from FDJ, Suitsou?

Could also see Rolland giving it another go – he won’t be able to keep up with the big guns when in the Alps.

The widely fluctuating gradients on the last climb could be significant – just like some riders have difficulty with changes in pace and accelerations on climbs, so do some with changing gradients.

58km to go and the breakaway still has 7'30'' for all those of you in the park with your kids trying to follow this on your phone

BMC riding at the front but not putting that much effort in.

Down a minute in 7km. Did the Peloton decide to ride afterall?

Two different Garmin Jerseys today, one type with red and white stripes on the shoulder, 1 without.

Obviously the BMC DS reads my posts and felt personally agrieved that I suggested they weren't pulling hard enough

44 to go and 6'15'' - it's not coming back, or is it?

Is there any particular reason why RCS Sport would quit sending this in HD? Even Unipublic has now got that sorted.

Those young ladies modelling the various jerseys at the finish line are quite impressive. I am particularly taken with the lady in the blue jersey.

Speaking of the blue jersey, I thought the mountains jersey was a different colour in years gone by. I checked and it used to be green. I think Banco Mediolanum are now sponsoring the mountains competition and the mountains jersey is now in their corporate colour, which is blue. It seems a shame that they have changed what should traditionally be a green jersey to blue purely for monetary reasons. I hope l'Equipe or ASO don't take up sponsorship of that competition because they will probably demand a yellow mountains jersey!

Funny old sport. BMC raising eyebrows by racing a descent - a Cadel speciality.

Aru mechanical, wheel from a team mate and entire team dropped back to help him back. Car doesnt even help the 2nd rider - just throws him a spare wheel for him to take care of it himself.

Aru getting a bike from his team mate after a rear puncture. Never quite sure if there's enough trade off between riding a bike that's unlikely to be quite the right fit over waiting a few seconds for a wheel change or your own spare bike.

Ah, did he just take the team mates wheel? That makes more sense.
