Assumption is the mother of all f*ck ups

I'm going to let Tyred&weary have this as he was closest.

As I said it does appear to have a couple of uses, lots of people suggested rope making which is one use but the one I had it down for was as an aid to climbing using single rope technique so Tyred&weary saying abseiling will do for me.

    Over to you Tyred&weary :D

Shall we just stick with the picture that has already been posted? It'll get confused otherwise.

I would also have thought an object's primary and intended use would be the best one to go with. That tool is a rope making tool. It can be used for abseiling, yes, but it can also be used as a paperweight.

It looks to me like a head tube with the steerer tube hanging out.

Has somebody forgotted to do up the bolt that holds the stem to the steerer tube?

OK Corriordan wins. It is my sons next Islabike that I picked up last night. The previous owner had put the headset spacers at the top of the fork tube, before it goes into the frame.................

Kind of close, but not for a 'boat', nor for a mast.

Does it join together a split paddle or a rowing oar?

No. It's not from, or from a part of a boat. It does have a nautical application though. (hence natrix being close).

    Is fishing nautical enough?

Would it be on something that's typically under the water?
