For those of you saying Nibali is overrated I would suggest taking a look at his palmares, then take a look at Froome's. The facts speak for themselves.

He has been at a WT team for 8 years and has won 4 WT races (2 GT's) with 4 GT podiums, Froome has been at a WT team for 4 and has won 4 WT races (1 GT) with 2 podiums. So again I ask do you actually know anything about cycling?

Giro will be competitive. I am not buying into the theory that Quintana will rock up and smash everyone.

Purito is the only one who will live with him.
And Purito will find some way of coming second regardless of what happens

Has Qunitana made it back to Europe yet?

Yeah that's what I mean, can nibali have any confidence in himself as a contender for the tour with 9 weeks to go or will he be resigning himself to being a bit part player? Looks a 2 horse race already which is a shame.
If Quintana decided to ride the Tour instead of the Giro it would probably make both races more competitive.
    Quaint, rococo notion.

I don’t understand the critic (not just the immediate above but other posts too) about Nibali – he had a go, it didn’t work, doesn’t mean he won’t be there come July. Only Merckx was ever present.
Equally relevant, is Spilak doing the TdF? I hope Peraud just decided not to bother today.

As for the Giro, I’m glad to see the likes of Quintana riding it, despite the TdF podium last year – shows riders and teams can have different priorities to the media.
And I agree the Giro could be more open – as well as Quintana I see 3 other main contenders and half-a-dozen good outsiders. For the TdF, I see only half those numbers.

It’s on the route/climb between Sierre and Zinal, the rising valley called Val d'Anniviers, a dead-end road, a climb of about 1100 in 25 km.
Sierre is a small, rather ugly industrial town in the Rhone valley betweeen Brig and Martigny. Zinal is both a summer and winter resort.
The stretch in the photo is early on, specifically between Niouc and Fang about 6 km from Sierre, but the whole climb is landscape-wise good, and not exceptionally hard.
It wasn't in the Tour de Romandie this year.

I couldn't watch and it sounded like a cracker! Typical. Froome obviously has some form and Mr Nibbles found dreaming of changing nappies.

Yes - good stage. Just before coverage came on was full of attacks too. I think the organisers delivered a good parcours here for a week long race. An MTF stage would have reduced the excitement and suspense IMO.

Kwiatowski and Hofland didn't start today's stage in #TDR2014. Surprised to see the Belkin sprinter out. Not so much with Kwiato.

After 30 mins riding, a break with Bakelants (OPQ), Vuillermoz (ALM), Albasini (OGE), Marino (CAN) and Voeckler (EUC) are 3-30 ahead.

After the first of 6x 28.1K circuits, the break had a lead of 3-54.

It’s reported that the break then accidentally took a shortcut!
They were then halted for 1-30 to cancel out the time gain which the shortcut had given them.

However, it doesn't appear to have altered their rhythmn because their lead has now gone up to 4-40.

Potentially dangerous stage for Froome. This is one he may well need his teammates for.

Break now at 6-14, halfway along 2nd circuit, making Voeckler virtual leader in GC.

Looks like the sprinters teams joining the chase now. Presumably they've decided the circuit isn't too hard.

Not the usual amount of chase power left in the peloton. Could well stay away.

Giant working, I think I caught a glimpse of Kittel a second ago

I'm always amazed how much these guys spin in big gears, they push 90+ in like 53-11's etc. Amazing

The break has it in the bag.
Tony Martin seems to fall off every other stage, these days.
