Are you running 23mm tyres with the guards and if so what's the ride quality like? Just looked and realized the update whilst was posing question about 23mm tyres. Doh0

It's also got me wanting one as my winter bike!
bugger! I've been drooling over the aithein frameset since it came out as a potential winter bike to replace my ribble, and that simply bosses it. Looks like it was meant to be....now how the hell will I explain this to my wife!!!!0 -
Have taken some snaps of mudguards as I took them off this eve and will have some photos of it with Zondas tomorrow in the sunshine, to give you an idea of what you need to bodge. Will upload tomorrow afternoon.
Am also taking the Boardman (see sig below) with a pal who's exactly my size so will get a good chance to test the two back to back0 -
Well I am happy to live with it if that's what Sheldon says, even if I am not sure I like the look of it. Fortunately I can't see it while riding!
Here's a pic of mine now it's set up.
Frame: Kinesis Aithein size large
Groupset: Shimano 5800 throughout incl pedals. 53/39, 11-25.
Finishing kit - PRO PLT. 110mm stem, 44cm bars (would prefer 42s and a rounder curve tbh)
Wheels as pictured: Shimano RS21
Mudguards: Portland design works
I also have some Zondas and 50mm carbon clinchers and will load some pics of those when the guards come off!0 -
Took the guards off over the weekend and here it is with Zondas.
Try to ignore the dodgy looking spoke angles
I have also uploaded some pics on how to drill out and sort the mudguard issue:
The cup for the seattube was riveted in vertically so I have drilled them out and drilled new, horizontal holes for a cable tie. Pretty simple
Here is what I mean about the rear brake mount not being quite central
These are the bits you bend in with pliers when you are happy with the alignment - as you can see I made a pig's ear of it
