Presuambly he's doing le man, which is a big ol' shift.
I'm now not so upset that I'm missing the race this weekend. he's better on motor racing as less chance to waffle on about a load of rubbish0 -

You clearly are not a fan of the 12-3am shift, where you, rather wonderfully, get whole laps with uninterrupted on board footage.
The downside is, the commentators begin to lose the plot, before, like the sun, gaining their senses with the rising light.0 -

I think it's that they're showing more (and sometimes they are events that overlap). This week alone you have Quigley in Switzerland so someone will be at Eurosport Towers in London to do Route Du Sud and also Slovenia.
Edit: It was Jonathan Harris-Bass today at Rud Du Sud.0 -

but he's perfect for those slots, you bring in Neville Hay too with a bottle of red purloined from the near michelin star'd pop up restaurant the journalists have been whiling away the hours in, and those two will wax lyrical about absolutely nothing for hours and hours, it becomes like TMS during a rain break and whilst theres stuff happening on track its not really needing to be commentated on and you learn so much more about the sport/behind the scenes/how things work.
if only the cycling commentating was as much fun to listen to.0 -
RichN95 wrote:awavey wrote:ok so hes covering the Dauphine right, and Ive seen pictures of him in France this last week...how was he commentating on the Rapha Nocturne ??
you're right, I thought sure Id seen him post a picture of a post stage, glass of red wine recovery drink whilst sitting with a very gallic vista view, but nope must have been someone tweeting him about Le Mans this week, as he is definitely in France now0 -

well having caught Le Mans I can safely say he managed to ruin that too. Has he not realised he isn't employed as a comedian. Add in the fact he's not funny and you have someone spouting driver and jokes that don't make any sense just to end up being ignored by his co commentators.
The other thing I noticed is he images something will happen in his head, and then commentates on that, rather than what is actually happening. He does the same in cycling where he starts going Sagan is going for a long one as he's assumed he's going for the sprint, when he's leading about Bennett etc0 -

was alright during practice/qualy sessions, but it sounded like they had some weird vision setup in that they were seeing world feed pictures, but that wasnt always what Eurosport were showing at the same time, so they were commentating on bits that werent matching the pictures, and in practice/qualy they had the time to correct themselves, but in the race they seemed to completely forget that at some points.
but yeah he did go into full stage finish mode on those last last laps Aston/Chevy battle  I switched back to Radio Le Mans, and no late night/early morning session this time either so couldnt even redeem that0 -

The Aston \ Chevy battle seemed to be where he lost it. At one point he had assumed the Aston would try and slipstream another car, and then continued to commentate on that despite the pictures showing that wasn't happening.
They did seem to have an issue where the replays weren't being shown on their monitor, they just had the world feed, but that still doesn't explain the rubbish jokes he tried to come up with all the time0 -
Some of his puns on Twitter are funny.
I am going to stick up for him twice now... he's better than P&P.
Do I prefer Hatch ? Yes but thats personal preference rather than anti CK.0 -
He mentioned Yoann Offredo earlier, before exclaiming how "He's not afraid to attack, doh"0

CK is exactly what would happen if Tony Blackburn ever turned his hand to sports commentary0

Shall we make a new CK Bingo for the Tour? Or a CK Drinking Game.
I see Si Clarke and Turbo Durbo are both riding...0 -

If they're on the list, you'd be wankered within the hourIt's only a bit of sport, Mun. Relax and enjoy the racing.0 -
If I had a quid for everytime he uses that classic "he's lighting the afterburners" I would be a rich man..or the friendly little nickname Eddy Van Boss!!!
He is so bad its worth listening to see how wrong he gets it!!!0 -

70s Radio 1 DJ hanging around watching groups of children? Surely not!0 -
For all Kirby's many faults he would have made the presentation tonight interesting, Jon Harris-Bass wasn't able IMO to carry it off at all.0

Hopefully, CK and SK will be doing the Tour on Eurosport-soon find out.0

thankfully ITV have full coverage of the tour . from the start of every stage . freeview plus primed and ready .0

CK's comments about Nairo cheering the Valverde crash have, rightly, caused a bit of a 'to-do' on Twitter. Wholly inappropriate commentary, CK now claiming he didn't know it was a serious crash. Idiot! The crash looked nasty, in the light of some very serious (and some fatal) crashes in what alternative reality could his commentary ever be deemed appropriate?0

i'd suggest anyone who doesn't like the comments to tweet Eurosport and let them know what you think. They may not be best buddies to suggest Nairo wanted him to crash is well wide of the mark.
He said a few other rubbish comments too but im starting to learn to tune him out now0 -

I genuinely think the greatest commentator in the world* would have struggled to have made the team presentation interesting.
* Really have absolutely no idea who that might be0 -

Wasn't the comment more along the lines of Nairo having a wry smile about it.
Tons of riders had come off already on that corner, his official role was to support Nairo, so he goes steaming into the corner...You live and learn. At any rate, you live0 -

Valverde is most useful when he's within striking distance of yellow.0 -
