I haven't a clue who's going to win MSR, not getting a feeling for anyone, but that's MSR, it's such a lottery in so many respects. If the weather is bad who can we perhaps preclude on that basis? I can only think of people who like the rubbish weather.
I know what you mean. Not a clue. Erring towards Degenkolb, Sagan and Kristoff for some reason though.
Maybe it would be easier if I was drunk.
This is the beauty of MSR, and why you should love it. Which other monument could be won by Cavendish, Gerrans, Cancellara and Ciolek?0 -

Or you've been watching repeats of The Killing, Borgen etc. etc...?
Good point, if I'd watched Salamander then Phil Gil would be getting the nod.
God there were some dreadful suits in that show! Phil Gil would have loved them.

Everything's easier, or seems easier I should say, when you're drunk Joel.
Who was your money on last night?

Fantastic Race, Last years was one of the most thrilling finale's i've ever seen. Sagan trying to take on the world and nearly doing it, tactically Ciolek played everyone perfectly.
this year, weather dependant if OPQS can keep it together they should be able to deliver the Cav, but I think the fast Classics boys such as Kristoff, Degenkolb and Sagan, should be there at the end.
I loathe Bouhanni, he's a liability, flapping around, barging people all over the place. hope he doesn't make the final selection.0 -

Just generally, he's just not a nice bike rider! his tactics are similar to those of some of the winter series riders at hillingdon. go low and bounce of people and hope you win the sprint by attrition or by fear!0 -
No Boonen at MSRWith heavy hearts, team OPQS announces that Tom Boonen will not take part in Milano-Sanremo next Sunday. The Belgian champion won't start because he and his partner, Lore, lost their baby few hours ago due to a miscarriage. In such a sensitive moment Tom prefers to stay by his partner's side.
All the athletes, staff, and sponsors of the team want Lore and Tom to know that they support them at this difficult time, and they hope the couple will find the strength to get through this trying experience.
We kindly ask everyone to respect the privacy of Lore, Tom and the Boonen family.

Nasty. Poor Boonens.0 -
La Primavera. Really very few races can be won by sprinters, puncheurs, or Grand Tour winners. It's a good choice to have as the first monument of the season.
Horrible news for Boonen.0 -
Awful for Tom. Don't know what to say to that.
Imagine how emotional a win at Flanders would be for him, not that that will be concerning him right now"In many ways, my story was that of a raging, Christ-like figure who hauled himself off the cross, looked up at the Romans with blood in his eyes and said 'My turn, sock cookers'"

I don't think there is much that can be said - there are things more important than cycling. Bad news for OPQS tactically, as Boonen was a strong card to play alongside Cav.0 -
Terrible news for him. Racing will be the last thing on his mind.0

So Sagan is favourite with either 3-1 or 7-2.
Cav surprisingly is second with 9/2 or 11/2.
Third is Degenkolb on anything from 8-1 or or 13-2.0 -

Cycling's very own 'wet Tuesday night at Stoke'...
Greipel's usually okay over smaller lumps, isn't he? I'd think he's good value at those odds, although I still don't expect him to win it.0 -
Stannard for me on ptp I think as he'll be there at the end won't win.
There's something about how quite cav is at the minute.
Pip's flying under the radar. GVA will be the same as Stannard.
Gerrans is a MSR bogey man.
Don't think sagan will win.

More changes to the route might come. Although these are apparently minor changes and aren't as game changing as the earlier ones.

Brailsford not quite getting the hang of the concept of a race :
""It'd be fair for teams to be given a lot more notice so we can sit down and prepare properly. You can get the riders in the right shape for the race rather than to do what we all do, which is choose riders for the races and wait for the course to come out to see if we got it right or not. If we had it earlier then the riders could prepare better and the racing would be better. Everyone would win."
Unfortunately the weather forecast seems to have improved. Still a mixed bag of forecasts, but it looks like we might only have rain showers and lighter winds. Some forecasters are now predicting headwinds for the last 100km which would be rubbish.0 -
Headwind "rubbish" - why?0

I reckon the bookies have it right with Sagan and Cav. Unless the race is in bits coming into the Poggio I can't see Sagan getting dropped by attacks from the likes of Gilbert - and he's such a good descender that he can probably close 10 seconds or so if he is behind them over the top. The danger for him may be that he ends up in a group of 5-6 in the run in and the rest look at him to close all the attacks - similar to last year and the same as has cost Canc in the past.
If the race ends with a bigger bunch coming to the finish then Cav has shown reasonable climbing form and has shown he can sprint at the end of a long race. For Cav to win maybe it almost has to be an uneventful race from a spectating point of view.
Such as shame that Boonen wont be there, I'd have loved him to add this one to his palmares but your heart goes out to him and his partner.[Castle Donington Ladies FC - going up in '22]0 -

A sweeping statement that has less relevance to MSR, I'd say.
Everything in MSR favours the peloton except the Poggio.0
