Xmas TV is always a disappointment, but even by my grumpy standards, this year it has been particularly dire.0

Probably the highlight of the festive season.0 -
Its no better or worse than recent years I reckon. The last time I remember Christmas TV being any good was when I was about 8. Watched Skyfall last night as I'd never got round to doing that previously, although they seem to have done away with the fine old Xmas tradition of having the Bond film on after Queenies speech."I spent most of my money on birds, booze and fast cars: the rest of it I just squandered." [George Best]0

Fl icking between Zombie Apocalypse on Pick TV and Pulp Fiction on Dave."I spent most of my money on birds, booze and fast cars: the rest of it I just squandered." [George Best]0

Human league, Duran Duran, etc?
I'd rather cut my ears off than listen to that shite.
As it's on telly and not the radio...

It all started to go t1ts up in the 90's."I spent most of my money on birds, booze and fast cars: the rest of it I just squandered." [George Best]0 -
I'm with Bally on this one. Motown and Disco had died. Black music had it's Jazz era in the 30's and 40's. Nat King Cole, the Platters etc then followed, soon there was Motown but in the 80's apart from a few like M Jackson, it was the beginning of Rap and Rap is (C)rap. The back drop of the cold war was this starchy, tight, brittle music predominated by electronica. Gone were the harmonies of ABBA, Diana Ross and the Supremes and the icons, the Janice Joplins, the Jim Morrissons, Bob Marley were taken over by ba bom bom tish ba bom bom tish ba bom bom tish ba bom bom tish played out endlessly as the background to every tuneless, soul less, contrived Scott, Aitken and Waterman production line formulated recipe - the Rick Ashtrays, the Kylie Monologues, promoting 'talent' when there wasn't any with a well oiled marketing machine.
Proper rock was dead as the permed, lipstick wearing pretty boys attempted to revive the form in twisted, barbarised fashion, bereft of the, Jethro Tulls, the T Rex's, Rush and the flares and the loose creative anti-war protagonists, the anti-establishment Pink Floyds and the Steppenwolfs, the Creedence Clearwater revivals, Crosby, Stills and Nash. The heart of the rich Soul of song writing was ripped out by the impending doom of annihilation and dollar promoters.
There were exceptions, Dire Straits, Genesis and the like but it was the flip of the 70's - the odd song was good rather than the odd song being not so good.seanoconn - gruagach craic!0 -
