I guess this is another new normal.

Fergie's law - game continues until Man U get ahead. So refs can get the game finished they give Man U loads of penalties in added time.
I wasn't watching but I was putting the added time down to VAR .
    The new normal?

Not a bad weekend of football overall :) I'll be watching MOTD again tonight.

    Good grief!
Just left a footie forum where the fans are already trying to get the incumbent manager sacked 4 games into the season.
Ok, they did capitulate at the end of last season too, when a shot at the play-offs was there for the taking, but my beloved Forest have recruited a plethora of new players over the last 4 weeks, who predominantly are upgrades on the players available to them last season.
Surely the modern day football fan realises that a new team takes time to gel, especially when the retained players are also suffering injury problems too.
Yes, it's been grim to watch having conceded 7 goals before finally scoring 1, but this modern age phenomenom of spitting ones dummy out so quickly is getting on my t**s!
Imagine what could have happened to Man Utd if Mark Robins hadn't scored against my beloved Forest in the 3rd round of the FA Cup 30-odd years ago and Sir Alex had been given the boot.
    Bloody Forest, the perenial bridesmaid.
Right now I loathe the game.

You can take a little heart in the fact that MU got properly shagged. Actually, no you can't.

Why not, that was a big part of why it was a good weekend? It's not that often your team has a thumping win and all of your competition either gets thumped or draws ;)

Sometimes the luck is with you, sometimes it isn't.

Although Man U definitely didn't want a bit of 'Fergie time' yesterday :)

The only people happy at Manure are the Glazier family taking their £23m dividend payment while the club services the debt costs of £25m per annum on £511m total debt.

While the clubs fortunes have faded on the field the clubs revenue growth from commercial activities has sustained a transfer budget few clubs can compete with bar the state owned entities of PSG and City

So one the worlds financial powerhouses in the world of football seems to lack a joined up strategy around player/management recruitment/continuity and overall squad capability. No marque signings? Covid impact? To a degree but the increase in financial drag on the club is starting to accumulate.

That said the owners are happy which is the overarching aim from their perspective and they have old Ed as a lightening conductor and fall guy when the going gets tough later this season.

And who thought football was a game of 11 a side with a ref......?

I hope that i'm wrong when I have a gut feeling that the Spuds are going to win the PL this season.
Seems Bourinho has got some mojp back. That or the rest of the big '6' aren't firing on at least 2 cyclinders.
We'll see what Bale's impact is going to be but I doubt he still has the pace he used to have.

Spuds to win the PL?
    No chance.

In other far more exciting news Forest have done the dirty on their manager and given him the heave-ho, replacing him with the equally dire Chris Hughton.

Turns out the owner had contacted all of the first team squad independently to give them both barrels after Forests disappointing loss to Barnsley in the first round of the League Cup, or whatever it's called now.

    What an utter bell-end.

We've sold our star player, a product of the Forest academy production line for £14m+ and lavished a whopping £6m on a bunch of unheard of foreign players with little or no Championsjhip experience, yet our deluded owner thinks he has the right to personally reprimand senior players, many who have never played with each other before, because he pays the bills.

Looks like another season of mid-table mediocrity is on the cards, once more. I doubt we'll be troubling the Premier League anytime soon. That'll be 21 seasons outside of the top flight, yet people are worrying that Spuds might have the making of a great season on the back of one win.

I try not to take it too seriously, but **** me, it's going to be a long winter

Surprised that none of you are discussing Project Big Picture, the latest power grab by the owners of Liverpool and Manchester United along with several othe Premier League teams, ably supported by Sky and Rick Parry the Chairman of the EFL.

Hopefully, it's dead in the water before it even gains traction, but where there's smoke, there's fire and isn't going to go away if the football pyramid we have in place right now is to be maintained. Far too many of the smaller L1 and L2 clubs need all the money they can get just to make it beyond this season.

The footie forum I post on think it's about creating a European Super League, but I think it's far simpler than that. This is all about maintaining the Premier League as the most watched and internationally broadcast league in the world and will eventually lead to a closed shop where promotion/relegation disappears just as it is in the good old USA.

This isn't about helping the lower leagues in their time of need, but ensuring billionaires earn even more money than they have now, as if being a billionaire isn't enough.

I'd be interested to hear the views of the majority on here who are Premier Lweague fanboys

    What's your take on it?

The big picture is seemingly dead in the water, too many obstacles and self interest to gain any meaningful alignment. The main obstacle being the concentration of votes amongst the current revenue rich clubs, I mean its the equivalent of turkeys voting for a christmas day lunch. Sure it's bound to be great day, but not for everyone concerned.

I can't see how Spurs/Arsenal or Manure could objectively see themselves as an elite club? Spurs took a 750,000,000 loan from HMG then spunk money on Bale amongst others? I would have thought a points deduction for Spurs would have been appropriate given the level of state support required to keep the gates open especially as the club is owned by a billionaire.

The Glaziers want to ring fence their golden cow with cash tits and suckle until she's bleed dry or relegated while mis directing the underlying reasons of reducing the domestic fixture list to concentrate on more lucrative competitions and increased TV rights, sponsorship and endorsements.

    Good God.
Tried to watch the East Midlands derby last night, Forest vs Sheepsh*ggers.
    Not impressed.
The game means nothing without fans in the stadium.
I'd rather watch paint dry than waste my time on a sporting contest devoid of atmosphere.

The cameras are doing a fairly decent job limiting the shots of empty stadiums. The crowd noise is ok but appreciate it’s the equivalent of watching German porn. Somethings missing...

So the mighty Forest juggernaut keeps rolling on.
    4!! games unbeaten. Wow.
Last nights draw courtesy of Rea, the Luton midfielder, who managed to score for both teams.
The last time Forest won promotion to the Premier League we had an extremely slow start to the season as the newly built team gelled. I'm trying to draw parallels with one of the best teams we've had outside of the Mr Clough years and wonder whether the beast is stirring once more.
    Onwards and upwards.

    A few years?

I'll take that. Been two decades outside of the top flight, so years sounds like steady progress.

I see Delia Smith, the Norwich City chairwoman is on her soap-box pleading for fans to be allowed back into stadiums asap.
I wonder how they organise and police this to make it Covid safe, regardless of whether you're sitting outside or not.
It's not like having 25% capacity will cover the overheads of running a club these days.
Perhaps the players could take a pay-cut in these extreme times. Nobody needs to be earning £20k+ a week. It was obscene before the pandemic, it's even more so now.

Nonsense. The players have contracts that must be adhered to.

I honestly have no idea what constitutes a penalty nowadays.

The Harry Kane penalty yesterday, Adan Lallana is clearly just trying to win the ball. Harry Kane, looks at the man and his only intention is to get in the way and impede him He has no intention and makes no effort to win the ball. If anything he fouls Lallana in my view and the way he bends over means lallana goes over him and falls dangerously. I honestly don't know why its a penalty.

You see other "fouls" where a player get to the ball first, but then clears the player out with their follow through and a penalty is given. However, when an attacker gets a shot in, but is then cleared out after the ball has gone it is never given as a penalty.

It's bizarre. So you can win the ball, but its given as a penalty, or you can arrive really late, get no where near the ball and it's not!
