As an antidote to the poncing prancing Prem primadonnas, keep an eye on the progress (or lack of) of Fort William of Scotland's Highland League. So far this season played 6, lost 6, goals for 4, against 56, including an 11-1 hiding on the first day of season by my once upon a time home town team Rothes.

Last season they finished with no wins, 5 draws and a goals against of 184, GD -153.

So faites vos jeux mesdames messieurs, this season do they Get A Win? Or do they exceed the goals against total?

Instead of Scottish footy, isn't it easier to just go down the park somewhere in England and watch Sunday pub team games? :)

Anyhow, a good weekend of footy - time for MOTD.

Just need Manure to lose tomorrow...

Mike Ashley was at yesterday's game to cast his eye over the opposition, following his acquisition of House of Fraser. He'd heard that the owner of another outfit, whose glory days were behind them, was keen to sell.

Chelsea to become the new Arsenal, happy with a top 4 finish and perhaps the odd cup win?
Perhaps they could start playing in red?

And to cap it all off, Manure are getting thrashed by the Spuds. Looks like Manure are the new Arsenal and they already play in red.

Looks like Roman is looking to sell a minority stake, but in case wants to sell the lot, Sir Jim Ratcliffe wouldn't be a bad choice as he's worth 3 or 4 times more :)

Oh I don't know. Not so long ago, more recent than most.

I suspect a lot of non Chelsea fans look back fondly at that strip. Last time Chelsea wore it they were relegated.

Must confess I didn't know Chelsea had played in red back in the 70's.

Great result for us against Utd yesterday. We were so lethargic in the first half, Poch must have been furious at half time. I saw Moura come on as a sub in a few games last season and saw glimpses of what he can offer - good to see him delivering when he gets a run of games in the side. Son will find it tough winning back his place when he returns.

For the benefit of plastics, JCL's and those that claim to know their football but don't. And to those who think that Chelsea were founded in 2003! OR that the game was invented by Sky! That particular red 70's Chelsea kit was actually the choice of Dave Sexton, in tribute to the great Hungary side of the 50's. I expect he hoped it might inspire some magic, alas it was a few years too late for that great 70's Chelsea side who were well on the wane by then. There have been other red away kits since then, in fact the first one goes way back to 1911. All take a backseat mind to the best red Chelsea kit of the lot...

Latest Fort William FC news (rapidly becoming the hipsters' choice of club): Highland League have deducted 9 points as a result of FWFC fielding an ineligible (mayhap one with a modicum of talent?) player on 3 occasions. So they now have to win 3 games (gonna be difficult) to reach zero points. Fun fun fun.

How do you make yourself inelgible in a league like that? Must have been a ringer from the local boozer.

Not here, I heard it when I went to see this lot - they're from Dorset and apparently the song is about Weymouth:

The joys of Weymouth, I visit clients there a few times a year. In its day was a town reputed to have had the greatest number of drinking establishments per head of population. Very much on its downers now. Just never kicked on from hosting the sailing events of 2012 Olympics.

To be fair, it could apply to quite a few coastal towns. I've seen that lot play live and they are a good laugh - some very original cover versions as well as that one.

Weybitha. Squaddie central. Awful shithole. Too many nights there suffering the same places. It’s utterly awful when you are stuck there for an extended period of time.

    Bloody awful place.

I guess that why it's described how it is in the song. Like the Lyrics:
    'Don't go out tonight
    Unless you want a fight
...there's a bad town on the coast"

    Apologies to Credence Clearwater Revival.

I think this is the old 'elephant up a tree' situation Goo - nobody knows how it got up there but everyone knows it will fall down sooner or later :)

I'm not naive enough to think their lofty position will endure. However I'm hoping for a steady campaign leading to 8-10th place overall. That'd be a very successful season..... maybe another drubbing of the blues at Stamford Bridge too.
A good Mourinho-esque effort from the Cherries but we got around the bus in the end.

Now looking forward to a couple of relegation 6 pointers tomorrow :)
