  • My goodness look at him without his helmet and glasses! He's barely started shaving! Has he started shaving? So young.

    I wasn't dominating the world when I was 18.
  • Right, after that I'm off out for a quick spin in the evening sun.

    A diamo compagni.

  • Anybody willing to descend like that deserves the win in my book. Great race.

That kid is great at descending. We are going to see some incredible speeds if it stays dry for the big boys

Impressive by both Mohovic and Meintjes

Any precedents for back to back junior - U23 championships?

    Popovych maybe?

To answer my own question, no, nobody has even won both U23 and junior worlds, let alone back to back

Ignatiev and Durbridge won U23 and junior TT, but with a year in between

Popo was just a very dominant U23, no junior world champ

On that showing today, I don't think it'll be tough enough to get rid of the likes of Sagan. Not sure about Gilbert or Cancellara.

    removed post - couldn't be @rsed
  • Thanks for posting that interview GP. Sounds like a real racer with a fearless streak to match some serious talent. He speaks well also and comes across more mature and intelligent then most 18 year olds. Look forward to seeing him develop at Liquigas. I like how he says he wants to win the Giro not mentioning the Tour - my type of rider.

Good work on the gif Ed.
    Contador is the Greatest
  • It was a shame Alaphillipe just ran out of steam as he was putting on a good show and racing with real heart. He won the final stage of L'Avenir solo with yesterday's winner 2nd.

Anyone seen comments from Yates? He forced a selection a couple of times and looked good but then just sat in the whole rest of the race. Good on the South African for being the only one of the chasers with balls to make a go of it - he was out solo for a long time too. Fortune favours the brave.

Note how interesting the racing is when you dont have strong and boring teams trying to control the race all day to let their protected rider have an easy shot at victory.

Am rooting for Cancellara tomorrow with no GB rider in the top ten let alone the podium. Unless its Wiggins going against the team - what a wonder that would be for the fans.
    Contador is the Greatest
  • Watching that last descent and corners to the line I would bet good money that if Sagan or Cancellara are solo on that part no one is bringing them back. Fearless descenders and superb on the corners.

I like Cancellara's comments on Velonews.

You mean Simon Yates? The guy who was trying to bridge across to Meintjes and Mohoric on the last climb?
  • Conde's winner's criteria

    • You need to ride Vuelta España.
    • This is a route for the climbers.
    • You need to be fast.
    • You need to be explosive on the climbs.
    • Don’t count on the Vuelta riders, the last week was too hard.
    • You need to be able to win on this kind of distance.
