Making this one already as it has been embarrassing lately on this forum and we got this little fella' for tommorrow:

Yep, that's right - more than ONE climb in the final part of the stage. They were creative!

  • Profile of the final climb - some savage gradients in there.

Should be an interesting stage, first proper mountain stage of the race. I've been away from TV/internet for much of the past week so only just catching up on events - definitely feels like I've missed out.

Its quite a good approach by the organisers as the climbing seems to gradually increase day by day rather than sprint stage then HC mountain stage or whatever. Its nice to have a day with a short punchy hard climb followed by a more high mountains-y stage. How's Moreno on the longer stuff?
  • Hopefully this won't blow the race apart too much. It's been another good Vuelta so far. Moreno can climb well on the long stuff but he's often the super-dom for J-Rod. Will be interesting to see how Katusha play it today.

  • König dropped from the peloton, apparently he was feeling sick this morning.
  • Group of 20 out in front - including EBH, CA Sorensen, Txurruka, Edet, Meersman and Clement.

Not an awful lot of space at the finish today (via Laura Meseguer on Twitter)

  • Alberto Losada and the latest, Barry Markus, also abandon.
Leo Konig has now lost contact with the bunch and going backwards.

I heard Fenn (and De Gendt) were taken out of the race, i.e. disqualified, for hanging on to cars.
Whether that was because they had been injured in the crash, were still suffering, and welcomed a little relief, or whether they were fully fit and just hitching a ride, I don't know.
  • Yes, both booted off the race.

I think the last person to be thrown off a Grand Tour for hanging on to a vehicle was Chris Froome.

break is down to a minute and a half or so on the penultimate climb.
  • Just realised that Kreuziger finished 17mins down yesterday. Very low heart rate apparently. Wouldnt be surprised if he pulls out soon.

  • Konig is in the group fyi and Valverde is struggling at the back

I think he limped in second to last. Sounds like he is pretty dead.
  • De la Cruz has attacked the peloton and has a decent gap

Valverde now has some form as is third wheel with two domestiques on the front....

  • Horner 4th wheel looking easy. Ditto Basso in 5th.

Maybe so. They probably give him the rest day and a half effort on the ITT and see how it goes.

Glad to see Konig made it back to the main bunch. It's been a rather draining ascent.
