bobones wrote:However, there really are some awful looking CR1s being built as a result of the Westbrook deal. The Pro in this thread is probably the worst I've seen so far. Or maybe it's just that larger sized frames look ugly and ungainly to my eyes?
I suppose so, riding a 52 larger sized bikes just look 'wrong' to me too. I know in bike shops I see some and think they look awful, probably because it's not 'my' size. In the case of that bike it's a new carbon frame coupled with old / low grade (cannot tell which) components, so it's bound to look wrong.0 -
Picked up Monday night, dragged it out of the car today at work to get a pic of it against a white background
54' Frame
Ultegra 6800 groupset
50mm Gigantex Tubs - Ugo built
Primato hubs
3T Ltd Ergosum Bars
3T Dorico Post black series
3T Arx Team stem black series
Speedplay pedals
Lizard skins tape
Syncros freebie saddle
All built on a shoestring buying items as and when I could afford it. Just hoping the weather holds for this weekend.

Nice.
Front wheel is on wrong way around but i guess you were in a rush to get some snaps?!
I'm looking to get the 11sp ultegra gear set next year. Let me know what you think to it if you will please? :?:0 -
Good spot lol but at least people can see both sides of these Ugo built Gigantex beauty's
Managed to get out on it this weekend round North Yorks and although still quite windy it was at least dry. The Ultegra 6800 works really well. Very positive and responsive to whatever is asked of it. Found it smooth enough in most gears I think it needs a little tweak in a couple of gears but I also find that with my winter equipped Centaur bike so maybe it's just the way it is?
The hoods are a little square compared to the Campag ones and I like the small button on the centaur for gear changing. It's horses for courses really having both systems I'd be happy with either. Went with the Ultegra on the scott has I just thought the crankset kind of suited that style of frame and fancied just trying it out too as it was new.
Hardest thing I found on my ride was breaking in the Fizik R3's and speedplay pedals. High arch on the R3 soon beds downs ok and think I have to much rear float dialled into the cleats so will change that on my next ride. The saddle needs changing to its a temp free one I was given but found I slid a lot on it for some reason so I'm thinking about a Prologo scratch from ribble.
It's not a harsh or firm frame either I found it really comfortable really compared to my Alan Mercurial Alu.
But the bike is a quick machine in the right hands and does look the dogs and all built on a shoestring bits purchased as and when. Think the total cost is around £1700 all in which I don't think is too bad imho.

Blimey  . I'm gonna get me some carbon deep rim wheels for mine this year (heart yes, head no, heart yes, head no....) they look ace!
Anyone know if those new Planet X CT45 wide rim wheels would fit these CR1's? Perhaps he just got a little too excited when he finished the build? Didn't line the cranks and tyre labels up, after all!0 -

Currently running Conti GP 24mm, but have a pair ZX Ultremos in 25 waiting for the better weather. Have a feeling that combo (with the wider rim) may leave too little room at the seatpost junction of the chain stays.Titus Silk Road Ti rigid 29er - Scott Solace 10 disc - Kinesis Crosslight Pro6 disc - Scott CR1 SL - Pinnacle Arkose X 650b - Pinnacle Arkose singlespeed - Specialized Singlecross...& an Ernie Ball Musicman Stingray 4 string...0 -

Just awaiting on iRide getting some more 11spd hubs in and this will be completed.
Bike set-up for moi, but i might swap the stem for -17* 120 item and push the sadle back a 5mm. I have purchased a 120mm to test before i change...
Ultegra 11sp
Fulcrum Racing 3's
Zipp Bars & stem (plus bar tape)
Spesh Ti Toupe (might change to black)
Should be a shade under 15lb0 -
I got one as well, as my first venture into road cycling - haven't got it now though.
Originally got it in silver, but the frame had issues with the braze-on.
So under warranty they gave me a red one, which then meant they refunded me £100 as well. Preferred the silver one myself.
Spec was simple. 105 everything but with an ultegra rear derailleur and chain. Mavic Ksyrium wheels, fizik bar tape, 3T bar/stem, syncros post, selle seat. Great bike, although it was a little long for me, hence the tiny stem. I do regret the stem being so short, didn't handle too great. Overall a good bike though, definitely gave me the road cycling bug.0 -
I've got the opposite problem to you. Shortish legs dictates my frame size which means there's not too much seatpost showing although it is acceptable. I've then got a 120 -17 stem to get the position I want and tbh I could do with going lower and longer a tiny bit more.
Why don't you try a slightly longer stem and moving your saddle forward to compensate? Just 1 or 2 cm might not have a negative impact on comfort and efficiency but could make a big difference to handling and how the bike looks(not that that should matter)0 -
I usually do ride with a very forward seat position, as I find it more comfortable, but I still find it quite a reach. The Fuji I have at the moment (I don't have the Scott now) the seat is almost all the way forward and I still find the reach rather long on their smallest frame with a 100mm stem. The seat isn't as high though, as the cranks on the Fuji are longer, so I'm hunting for smaller ones before I commit to changing the stem or such. Proportioned the way I am is going to lead to back problems if I don't get it sorted soon, which I'm hoping to avoid, so I'm not out on the bike a huge amount at the moment until I get the smaller cranks and can get the seat up.0
-
Crikey - if a CR1 is too long for you you'll struggle on most bikes. You might do well to try Campagnolo for the shorter reach shifters or source some of the fairly rare short reach Shimano shifters (which they helpfully don't make anymore).Faster than a tent.......0
